It's Bike Week! 🚴 Access to cycling can lead to better health outcomes, access to employment and opportunity, and stronger communities.
We are so proud of the work we have done to realise the transformative power of a bike. In the past 12 months, we have:
🙌 Started a new phase of Big Birmingham Bikes with Birmingham City Council to provide 600 bikes - including 100 children's bikes - to residents across Central, East and West Birmingham
🍳 Deepened our bike work in Essex with group led rides, Cook and Cycle events, and Bike Kitchens to support with maintenance
📓 Launched Volterra's independent report of our Free Bikes schemes at the House of Lords
🌈 Partnered with Wheels for All to create an inclusive cycling hub
🏥 Supported NHS staff at Heartlands Hospital and Birmingham Chest Clinic NHS by providing Band 2 and 3 staff with free bikes for their commute
🎬 Highlighted the stories of Essex Pedal Power bike recipients, ride leaders, and volunteers with Active Essex
💺 Upskilled staff to provide seated cycling classes in Essex
🩵 Provided free bikes to people living with Severe Mental Illness (SMI)
🏅 Helped children to learn to ride and improve their cycling confidence with Bikeability training
We look forward to what the future holds for cycling across the UK and within the communities we serve. For more info on the work we do with active travel and tackling inequality, please get in touch: [email protected]
