Andy Burnham has announced plans to reduce homelessness in our city by Christmas, aiming to ensure rough sleepers have somewhere safe to stay. He’s also pledged to donate 15% of his salary to organisations working to tackle homelessness. This is the energy we needed. Hopefully it inspires organisations and communities to come together and strengthen the support available for those in need.

We create information packs for individuals experiencing homelessness, giving them clear guidance on the services available across the city. Each pack also includes a bus ticket, helping people travel directly to the organisations we signpost them to. It might seem small, but it’s a meaningful first step in building trust, opening conversations, and pointing someone toward the support they deserve.

This incredible woman we met is currently living in a tent because she has a dog — and that dog is far more than emotional support. He protects her health, alerting others when she goes into a hypo. She’s diabetic, and he’s literally lifesaving.

So it raises a real question: should more accommodations accept individuals with pets? Let’s open the conversation in the comments and talk about it together.

Trident Group supports people through some of the hardest moments of their lives — offering safety, stability and a chance to rebuild with dignity. Their team shows up every day with compassion, patience and real understanding of what people are facing on Birmingham’s streets.

This is why they’re part of One Minute, One Mission — a project created by Diver’s Community CIC to spotlight the organisations changing lives across our city.

One Minute, One Mission: Trident Group

Today we are highlighting Trident Group who provide extensive support to those experiencing homelessness across our city. Their work brings dignity, connection and real change to people in our city.

One Minute, One Mission is a project curated by Diver’s Community CIC to highlight the vital work that is happening in our own communities daily and to help change the narrative around homelessness by amplifying the voices of frontline organisations.

Diver’s Community CIC is a Birmingham‑based organisation providing immediate and ongoing support to people rough sleeping, helping them access safety, stability, and new opportunities. Since launching in 2024, our organisation has supported more than 1000 individuals and is funded by donations from our local community.

Showerbox provides warm showers and care to people experiencing homelessness — no questions asked. Their work restores confidence and offers a moment of calm in the middle of incredibly tough circumstances.
