International Youth Day is an opportunity to recognise both the potential of young people and the shared challenges they face around the world, including access to education, skills and employment.

The UK continues to face these challenges too, particularly for young people who are not currently in education, employment or training (NEET).

At EBCF, we are committed to helping young people develop the skills and confidence they need to move forward.

During the 2025–26 academic year, 16% of total learners on our courses were categorised as NEET, reflecting our ongoing work to create accessible pathways back into learning, training and employment.

58% progressed into employment with an additional 17% accessing higher education.

If you are aged 19–25 and not in education or employment, we have a range of FREE courses that can help you develop new skills and take your next step.

As part of our Employability Programme, our Warehousing and ESOL learners enjoyed an insightful visit to the John Lewis warehouse at Cranbrook Way.

Learners explored how a large-scale warehouse operates and gained insight into how different teams work together to manage its day-to-day operations. They also learnt about manual handling and workplace safety, while gaining valuable knowledge of a real working environment.

Experiences like this help our learners develop their communication skills, workplace awareness and, most importantly, the confidence to step into the world of work.

A huge thank you to the John Lewis team for the warm welcome and for making this such an engaging and valuable experience!

𝐖𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤!

As National Employability Week comes to an end, we're celebrating the fantastic work that has taken place across our different courses this week. From developing digital skills with AI to building confidence, communication and industry-specific knowledge, our learners have been strengthening the skills they need to succeed in the workplace.

Here's a snapshot of what they've been up to:

𝐄𝐒𝐎𝐋 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 explored how AI can support their career journey by creating CVs, improving job applications, using the right keywords, understanding and writing in simple English, and preparing for interviews. They also practised interview skills in pairs, developing both their spoken English and workplace communication.

𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐫 & 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 developed valuable industry and customer service skills through practical shopping tasks, helping them understand how to select the right products and equipment for their profession. They also represented EBCF at a local school fair, where they engaged with parents and children, building confidence and applying their practical skills in a real-world setting. Learners also explored AI to design business logos and create professional LinkedIn profiles, preparing them for employment or future self-employment. A special thank you to Isa Mutlib from Cotalent AI for helping our Hair & Beauty learners develop invaluable AI skills for the future.

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 & 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 strengthened their understanding of safeguarding, an essential part of working safely, professionally and confidently in the care sector.

𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 continued to develop their speaking and listening skills, recognising that strong communication is one of the most valuable skills employers look for.

At EBCF, employability is embedded throughout the curriculum, ensuring every learner develops the confidence, practical experience and workplace skills needed for their next steps into employment, further study or self-employment.
