Reminder that our open day is this Saturday, August 22nd. Come along to get help filling out the MRHA's consultation on the railway works that threaten the Warehouse and enjoy some fun activities put on by people who use our building.

Excited that so many people who use our building have generously offered to contribute to our big Save The Warehouse open day. Birmingham Friends of the Earth campaigners will be running a clothes swap and mending sessions and groups that meet in our building including SHE Choir Birmingham, Happy Accidents Improv, The Philosophers’ Yard and Secret City Arts will be running activities or performing.

And, importantly, we will have copies of the paper MRHA consultation and volunteers on hand to help fill it out. We know engaging with consultations is daunting for a lot of people and we're here to help.

BRIG Cafe at the Warehouse will be open and selling refreshments.

The latest film organised by Birmingham Friends of the Earth is this Wednesday at the Mockingbird Cinema & The Nest Bar and Kitchen. Koyaanisqatshi is a classic documentary looking at the relationship between humans and our planet, narrated in the Hopi language with music by Phillip Glass.

Introducing… Koyaanisqatsi !! This film is our newest instalment in the BFOE season of film, in collaboration with Screen B14 - Kings Heath Community Cinema

This documentary film questions aspects of the relationship held between humans, nature and technology.

Seems we're not alone in seeing parallels with our situation and The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy... Birmingham Science Fiction Group, who meet in our building have taken the theme and run with it - https://weknow0.co.uk/?p=3244

The SF Group generally meet on the second Friday of each month (with the exception of August, so not tonight!), so if you're a SF fan, go check out their page.

We understand that filling out consultations can be daunting so we're having an open day on August 22nd where volunteers will be on hand to help people fill out the MRHA consultation. We'll have printed copies of the materials and the BRIG Cafe at the Warehouse will be open selling refreshments.

We also want this to be a fun day showcasing all the amazing people who meet here and things that go on here, so Birmingham Friends of the Earth Campaigners are running a clothes swap and mending cafe, The Philosophers’ Yard, Happy Accidents Improv, SHE Choir Birmingham and Secret City Arts will all be performing or running activities.

It's all feeliing very Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy around here...

In the middle of the hottest, driest summer yet (again) we are fighting to save our building when we're all facing the much greater threat of human-induced climate change.

But seriously - building greener public transport infrastructure is necessary for transitioning away from fossil fuels BUT it cannot come at the cost of community assets and creative spaces.

We hosted The Big Ride for Palestine for the lunch stop for their 25-mile Birmingham ride, in support of freedom, justice and equality for Palestinian people. 171 riders of all ages stopped off in Shaw's Passage and Digbeth Community Garden garden to enjoy a break in the shade and food cooked by BRIG Cafe at the Warehouse.

It's great to see the street filled with bikes and riders, instead of the usual Saturday afternoon car traffic!

Great post on the threat to Digbeth by our neighbour Mockingbird Cinema & The Nest Bar and Kitchen They sum the situation up perfectly by saying "who wants a better route to a worse destination"?
