Come and see us!

We're rather proud of our home fleet. On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, we're putting the whole lot to work.

That's two full days. Saturday and Sunday, both running an intensive timetable along the entire length of the line, with steam and diesel taking turns from first train to last. There'll be goods trains and expresses running non-stop straight through. If you like watching trains work properly, this is the weekend for it 🚂

It's also one of your last chances to see the Black 5 with us, so don't leave it too long.

There's plenty to do between trains, too. The engine sheds at Toddington are open, so you can see the locos we're restoring up close. Same at Winchcombe, where our carriage and wagon workshops will be open to walk round. Down at Cheltenham Racecourse you can climb into the cab of both a steam and a diesel loco.

Tickets are on sale now at gwsr.com. Adults £28 and kids travel for just £1.

We'll be sharing more over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled 👀

We honoured our late volunteer Bill Hall, and delighted to host his family for a very special day. I think we had the record for the greatest number of Halls on a Grange (and Thomas's) 😄 A lovely day of remembrance for a lovely man.

Pleased to say that Betton was back in traffic and it was our AGM today, which was held at Winchcombe but a few of our members also had a ride to Cheltenham and back. We had a good turn out but didn't get everyone in the photographs. We were pleased to honour Bill Hall at our AGM and also have Betton carry a wreath in his honour.

A busy weekend working on 6880, tubes to clean out, valve packing to renew, cylinder relief valve for refitting. Replacement steam heat bag, refitting smoke box spark arrestor, cleaning the cab and polishing. Also a quick visit to Tyseley to see progress on the tender. Thanks to Mark Young at GWSR for his guidance and as ever to Chris Moore , Barry Hayman. Oliver Brailsford Antonia Kidds, Paul Nichols , Lynn Margaret Moore for this weekend and to TLW staff.

Chris, Paul and Lynn this past weekend were instructed how and carried out the boiler washout on Betton, Paul got the muckiest we have ever seen him🤣 but did a good job! Mudhole doors and washout plugs all cleaned and ready to go. Back this coming weekend to help finish the job.

It is with profound sadness to say that one of our working volunteers Bill Hall has passed away. Bill was a enthusiastic and generous supporter of Betton Grange and until quite recently still managed to visit us at Tyseley, although his health has not been that good. Bill was always cheerful, always willing to lend a hand, he was a talented model engineer and also supported other loco groups.He will be greatly missed and was a very dear friend. God Bless Bill.
