Hi friends, a few updates have been made to GrowSpace to make the platform easier for facilitators and learners to use.

A new registration link for learners
Facilitators can now generate a registration link and share it directly with learners, for example through WhatsApp. Learners can then use the link to register. An email address is still required, but they no longer need to receive or find an invitation email from their facilitator.

A new tour guide
New learners and facilitators will now see a detailed tour when they enter GrowSpace, helping them understand how the platform works and where to find its main features.

Easier access to facilitator notes
The position of facilitator notes has also been adjusted to make them easier to access while facilitating a lesson.

The last few years have brought new ways of making Joining the Family available and adapting it for different contexts. In 2024, online-only JtF materials were launched, and consultations began for contextualised East African versions.

Then came several developments in 2025: an e-book, a version of JtF contextualised for a Southeast Asian country, the first pilot of the Whole-Church Series, and a new JtF website.

In 2026, German and Dutch translations were launched, alongside JtF activities recorded in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Tabora, Garissa and Luwero.
These are only some of the developments along the way. As we celebrate 10 years, we're thankful for where the journey has taken JtF – and looking forward to what lies ahead.

The journey continued….

As the years went on, Joining the Family began being used in different places and in different ways. In 2019, JtF was used in Singapore as three 3-hour sessions, and around the same time it was also used with a group in Africa.
In 2021, JtF was translated into Norwegian, and in 2022, JtF courses began to be offered centrally on Zoom. These are just some of the glimpses we have of the JtF journey. There have also been tasters and sessions in theological colleges and in different countries that aren't all captured in a single timeline.

What happens when the people we’re called to serve are facing battles we can’t always see?

For Christians working among people affected by trafficking, exploitation and other forms of oppression, practical support matters. But so does recognising the spiritual realities that can surround this work.

SIM workers Richard and Valerie Morris have spent decades helping mission workers understand what it means to face those realities with confidence, not in their own strength, but in the authority Jesus gives.

From supporting survivors of trafficking in West Africa to equipping mission workers through prayer, teaching and training, what they want people to know is darkness doesn’t have the final word.

Wherever people are being held captive, the Church is called to bring the hope of Jesus.

How far has Joining the Family travelled?

A story we only discovered years later

Around 2018, a mission worker travelled with the first JtF pack, containing the book and video course on a JtF-labelled flash drive. Years later, the JtF team discovered the course had been in use in the region that they travelled to since then.
And it makes us wonder: how many more stories like this might be out there?

This year we're celebrating 10 years since the launch of Joining the Family. But a lot had already happened before launch day.

Tim remembers the initial work beginning in 2010, when he, Phil and others came together and began running live seminars. From 2013, work began on designing and filming the course, followed by editing, piloting and the writing of the book.
All of this helped lay the groundwork for the launch of Joining the Family in 2016.
Over the next couple of weeks, as we count down to our 10th anniversary gatherings, we'll be sharing a few glimpses from the JtF journey so far.
