What an incredible opening evening for our 90 Years of Penrith Young Farmers exhibition at Rheged!

A special thank you to Tim Farron for officially opening the exhibition, and to Andrew Addison for his wonderful speech. And to our amazing Young Farmers Choir, who gave us a wonderful performance!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to share memories and celebrate this milestone. It was fantastic to see so many past and present members coming together to mark our 90th birthday.

We are also incredibly grateful to our sponsors, whose support made this exhibition possible: Dalemain, Lake District Estates, Arnisons Heelis Solicitors, Gill Head Farm, and NFU Mutual North Lakes & Appleby.

The exhibit is open for two months (until Skelton Show weekend) so please go along and have a look!

On Saturday, Penrith YFC attended Pre Lims at Shawhill, Kirkbride and what a great day! 💪

We kicked things off with the junior tug of war team securing a brilliant 4th place, The women’s team gave it their all but just missed out on the crossovers. Then the men’s team smashed it, taking an amazing 1st place 🥇. Younger members learning the ropes on the sideline.

Amelia Sisson showed us all how it’s done on the rodeo bull.

Jackson completed the Yard of Ale along with Lucy finishing off with half a yard of ale.

Our boat race team was absolutely flying, with drinks going down very smoothly 🍻

The Karaoke team brought the energy to the night with Jonny, Kitty, Lucy and Amelia singing their hearts out to Don’t Stop Believin.

We rounded off the night in true Penrith YFC style—all together on the dance floor.

Well done to all Penrith members and competitors who took part—bring on Field Day!! 🔥🖤💚

Penrith Young Farmers were proud to bring back the Penrith Rally after more than 20 years.

Held on Friday 27th March at Penrith Auction, this marked the first Rally since 2000, after the event was unable to go ahead in 2001 due to the Foot and Mouth outbreak. It was fantastic to see it return in the Club’s 90th anniversary year, with a good turnout and a brilliant atmosphere throughout the evening. We were delighted to welcome members from Skelton, Eden Valley, Caldbeck and Brampton clubs.

The evening featured a wide range of competitions, including Mystery Stock Judging of crisps, mugs and hats; industrial classes such as Cowboy Cookies and Cowboy Bread; along with fun events like egg throwing, plaiting and more.

The Rally Trophy is the Henry Jackson Memorial Trophy, originally presented by the late Henry Jackson, who founded the club and led it for 30 years. Congratulations to Penrith, who won the Henry Jackson Memorial Trophy by just 10 points ahead of Skelton.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the night, and we hope this is something that can continue for years to come.

Our thanks go to Penrith Auction for hosting us, Katy Edgar for the catering, and all the judges and stewards -including County and Northern District officials; as well as our Advisory and Committee members for ensuring the event ran smoothly.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along and showed their support.💚🖤

Last night we attended the 44th AGM for Northern District YFC, and what a night it was for Penrith.

Penrith brought home plenty of silverware following the recent success and hard work of our members over the past two years.

Charlotte Wilson did the club proud, winning the PFK Plate for Situations Vacant.

Charlotte also joined myself, Samuel Errington and Ellie Fisher in winning the Jackson Cup for Senior Quiz.

Congratulations to Sophie Jones, Georgie Fisher, Ellie Fisher and Ollie Savage for collecting the Gillian Potts Trophy after winning Senior Just a Minute.

We also jointly won the John Davidson Trophy for Greatest Improvement in placing over the previous year — a real testament to the commitment of everyone involved.

Sophie Jones was runner-up for the Alan Bowe Trophy for Young Farmer of the Year, an excellent achievement.

The club was awarded the Armstrong Watson Trophy for the Community Engagement Award, recognising our work cleaning up community areas and Clifton Primary School. Following last years bonfire, we knew we had to come back bigger and better — and we certainly did. With an attendance of around 4,000 people, the town of Penrith tucked into sausage coils, soup and luxurious hot chocolate, all while enjoying a fabulous fireworks display lighting up the sky.

I’d also like to give a special mention to our club President, Kathleen Twentyman, who was elected as Northern District President. Best of luck for the year ahead.

Well done to everyone involved in making this happen — members and advisers alike. Bring on the 16th of May!💚🖤
