FastAid - Solihull & Birmingham

FastAid - Solihull & Birmingham CFRs provide live saving treatment to patients in local communities.

Established in 2005 FastAid (registered charity number 1117114) provides Community First Responders (CFRs) to the West Midlands Ambulance Service in Birmingham and Solihull. CFRs are volunteers trained to a nationally recognised qualification which is endorsed by the Faculty of Pre Hospital care by the royal college of surgeons Edinburgh. CFRs are ‘called out’ by West Midlands Ambulance Service if

they can reach a life threatening situation quicker than an Ambulance Crew. Community First Responders normally cover an area approximately 7 minutes travelling time from their home or work place.

Let's talk water safety!

Though it's tempting to take a dip in open water on a hot day, there are hidden dangers beneath the surface which makes rivers, lakes and quarries unpredictable and dangerous when there isn't a lifeguard or safety measures in place. There are lots of hidden risks to consider in open water:

👉Temperatures can be very cold and could cause cold water shock or hypothermia.
👉Strong, unexpected currents making it difficult to swim back to shore, even for an experienced swimmer.
👉Slippery and steep banks making it difficult to climb out.
👉Unknown depths which are difficult to estimate.
👉Objects hidden beneath the water i.e. rocks, machinery, drains, branches.

If you see someone in the water and think they might be in difficulty, call 999 immediately giving as much information as you can about your location. Try to stay as close as you can to where you last saw the person in the water if safe to do so.

Our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) paramedics are trained and equipped to manage any patient within the water environment. Never enter the water in an attempt to rescue a person or an animal and, instead, call 999 immediately.

Please share this with your family and friends during the current heatwave.

👏 Community in action!

Three of our amazing volunteers recently delivered a CPR training session for the Dickens Heath & Fulford Heath Women’s Institute as part of their “Don’t Be a Bystander” challenge.

A huge thank you to the group for their warm welcome—and for their generous £50 donation, which helps us continue delivering this vital training.
