Professional Incredibles

Professional Incredibles Our foundation project is Brum Spirit – an cultural exchange between Birmingham and Brazil, founded in 2011. Switch, Electric and Listening Sessions.

Professional Incredibles is a not for profit production company based in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, specialising in community engagement, place making, professional development within the arts, interfaith dialogue and low impact living. To date, we’ve reached a combined audience of 30,000 people, uniting 300 locally based artists with 100 visiting artists from Brazil in conversation, creation and per

formance, within neighbourhood settings, with support from Arts Council England, Birmingham City Council, European Regional Development Fund, Kings Heath Business Improvement District, Birmingham International Dance Festival, Celebrating Sanctuary and a range of private contributors. Brum Spirit led 25 British artists on two five city tours around Brazil (2012 and 2013), and was included in FIFA Rio’s 2012 Cultural Calendar, in recognition of its commitment to socio cultural development, and the promotion of Brazilian culture overseas. We also collaborate with France based artists through Association Patakapara, and aim to broaden our exchange to include relationships with other nations, including Lebanon, Cuba and Canada, from 2016 onwards. Our community percussion project Drum Together Brum (DTB) - begun with Near Neighbours, Department for Communities and Local Government and Birmingham City Council support in 2013, continues self sustained - funded by member subs and performance fees. DTB was launched at our first edition of Brum Together in January 2013. This free, family friendly celebration involved South Birmingham residents from secular, Christian, Muslim and Sikh backgrounds in participatory arts, music and feasting. In February 2015 we launched Levitate - a conference and live performances drawing together Birmingham’s music industry. Supported in its first edition by Birmingham City Council, Levitate prototyped a unique and meaningful music industry week for Birmingham, with participation from PRS Foundation, UK Music, Musicians Union, Birmingham City University and Sound Diplomacy, as well as sector practitioners from across Birmingham. Featured musicians included GBH, Jo Hamilton, Mendi Singh, 4 x DMC Champion Mr. In December 2015, with support from Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whisky, Professional Incredibles launched Levitate: A Life in Music. This short documentary, directed by Murmuration Films, focuses on Birmingham as a city that has forged a longstanding and globally influential music heritage. In this metropolitan crucible of talent and industry, what does it take to make a life in music? Professional Incredibles take a holistic, inclusive approach to arts production. We delight in working with people from all backgrounds, and in brightening everyday life in our home city, and beyond. We are also committed to catalysing the professional development of Birmingham based artists, venues and organisations, and we strive to highlight human rights issues through our work. We ask ourselves two questions at the start of every project: how shall we celebrate together, and what positive changes can we effect? Most importantly of all, we love a good party, a good cuppa, good cake and a good chat. We are always open to conversation. If you’d like to work with us, just get in touch :)
