European's Welfare Association CIC European's Welfare Association CIC
Non for profit community led organisation established to educate, serve and support

EWA is a social enterprise CIC which had been called to life under management of Elizabeth Kardynal, Agnes Cyl (founders of Midlands Polish Community Centre- MPCC) and Marcin Klein- founder and director at Polish Artist in London (PAIL). These people had merged both organisations' interest and resources together in the name of passion for community work in areas of education, activism and support

for most vulnerable European immigrants in the UK. EWA’s crucial resource and assets is the team of highly motivated and qualified staff and volunteers. This includes teachers, teacher assistants, employment and welfare advisors, artists and community activists. EWA is advocating the importance of strong local partnership and networking with 3rd sector organisations in delivering the real change. We believe in asset based approach and are solution driven.

Yesterday, as part of our Recovery Project, we had the privilege of taking a small group of individuals to the RAF Cosford Museum.

For many who joined us, opportunities like this are not easy to come by. Our group included people in recovery from alcohol addiction, many of whom are living with limited means and facing daily challenges that can feel heavy and isolating.

Today offered everyone a chance to step away from those pressures, spend time together, and enjoy something meaningful.

We walked around the museum, taking in the incredible aircraft, machines, and stories on display. As we explored, conversations opened naturally. People shared their thoughts about the history around us, as well as personal and family memories. Some spoke about life in Poland, the hardship endured by families in the difficult years that followed in the post-war period.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a light lunch together. There was laughter, quiet conversation, and the simple comfort that comes from sharing food in good company. We also spent time outside in the warm sunshine, taking a moment to relax, breathe, and enjoy the day.

It was a heart-warming trip, filled with history, memories, companionship, and dignity. For people on the road to recovery, days like this matter. They remind us that everyone deserves moments of peace, belonging, and hope.

Sometimes, recovery is not only found in meetings or support sessions. Sometimes, it is found in a shared walk, a conversation, a meal, and the warmth of the sun on your face.

Introducing one of the talented Yam From Here workshop leads, Jatinder Ghataora!

Jatinder is an artist, writer, animator and editor. He originally fell in love with art as a student in the 1980s. After a long spell away, he rekindled his love of art around 2010 and started producing comic strips working with others including James D. Hudnall who has written stories for Marvel and DC comics.

The comic strips have covered a range of genres which include historic, war and biographies. Original personal narratives which he has written as well as drawn have become a big part of his output. Some of these have been published by American and English publishers. He has also produced some editorial and fan art.

When not working on stories, Jatinder gets involved in the art community challenging himself with Inktober and producing art for charities. He is a keen comic convention goer often exhibiting his work for sale at conventions in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bedford and other places.

In 2018 he decided to quit working and embark on a full time BA (Hons) in Illustration and then an MA in Visual and Digital Communication.

While at University he has made full use of the opportunities afforded to him to explore his interest in print making, digital and animation art, constantly experimenting and expanding his practice. A keen printmaker, he has also attended a number of print club sessions, life drawing classes both in person and virtually. He also received a letter of commendation for his innovative entry to the Eleanor Smith portrait competition.

To support his practice, Jatinder travels and is inspired by both classical artists such as William Blake and well as comic artists like Gil Kane. These trips include places of artistic interest both in England and abroad (Examples: Manchester, London, Paris Barcelona and Berlin).

🌿 Weave and Picnic 💜

Last Saturday, the “Weave and Picnic” workshop took place at our Polish Supplementary School. It was led by an artist connected with Art Gallery Stryx.

The children created wicker crafts, discovered new skills, and had a wonderful time surrounded by nature.

Thank you to all the participants and to Hadis Ensafi for preparing the workshop!

🌿 Weave and Picnic 💜

Meet Vishali, the new Community Engagement Researcher and intern of the Yam From Here project!

With a keen interest in exploring personal historical narratives, she leverages her undergraduate background in historical and archival studies to better understand the lived experiences of individuals in the Black Country.

Apart from her studies, she frequently practices singing, a long-standing passion and a means of relaxation. When not engaged in music or academic pursuits, she enjoys movie marathons, especially period dramas and mysteries.

Her interest in the Black Country stems from a broader exploration of migration in the UK and multicultural diversity, a theme she relates to as an international student. Building on this perspective, she is eager to investigate the region's rich history and the people who have made the Black Country their home.
