WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT!

Over the next two Saturdays, Sylwia Ciszewska-Peciak will deliver a woven photography and photographic sculture workshop at EWA's Polish Saturday school.

The first workshop (10/10) will focus on woven photography, which is the craft of cutting photographs into strips and interlacing them to create a textured, multi-dimensional mosaic image.

This activity is closely connected to Sylwia's own practice, as someone who has used photograhy as a way to get to know West Bromwich and understand the place that has become her new home.

"As a migrant, I see the process of weaving photographs as a metaphor for my own experience, weaving my personal history into the reality around me and building a new identity from different places, memories and experiences."

In the second workshop (17/10), Sylwia will guide the group in making a photographic sculpture, using small cubes cut from photographs and putting them together to make a collective sculpture.

The students will be invited to bring a few photographs that are meaningful to them, these could be family photographs, images of their home, places they feel connected to, people, everyday life or photographs connected to a particular memory.

This workshop is open to pupils of the Saturday school and will be delivered in Polish.

Introducing Sylwia Ciszewska-Peciak...

Over the next two weeks (10 October and 17 October), Sylwia will deliver two workshops at EWA's Polish School in West Bromwich.

Sylwia is a Polish-born documentary photographer and mixed-media artist based in West Bromwich, UK.

Her practice explores themes of migration, memory, identity, and motherhood, drawing on her personal experience of resettlement.

Working across photography, collage, and sculptural installation, she investigates how personal and collective histories shape belonging.

Since 2016, she has documented everyday life in West Bromwich, capturing candid, emotionally resonant moments that reflect resilience and transformation.

Her work often includes self-portraiture and domestic scenes, delving into vulnerability and the emotional labor of motherhood.

Recently, she has developed interactive photographic cubes, sculptural objects that invite touch and rearrangement, to express the fragmented, layered nature of memory and cultural adaptation.

Through tactile materials and visual storytelling, her work offers immersive reflections on the complexities of identity and the evolving meaning of home.

We are looking forward to welcoming Sylwia to the Polish School and will share more information about her workshops soon!

At EWA CIC, we know that safeguarding is not just about policies and paperwork. It’s about creating environments where children, staff and volunteers feel genuinely safe, supported and protected.

We provide accredited training and specialist support in safeguarding, trauma-informed practice and building strong organisational and governance structures.

And when things become difficult, we are here too. 🫶🏼

We can help organisations review and implement safeguarding systems, strengthen procedures, mediate in challenging situations and provide practical support when concerns or problems arise.

Introducing Vicky Roden...

Vicky Roden is a multidisciplinary artist who works in a variety of media including embroidery, jewellery and resin casting.

She is particularly interested in the stories objects have had before they meet us and the embellishments we add to both the item and the tales around them.

This Saturday (26/09), Vicky will be leading a free resin casting workshop at Haden Hill House - a beautiful 19th century gentleman's residence in Cradley Heath.

She'll be leading making-sessions every hour from 2pm as well as showing participants curiosities nestled within the museum.

Coming up on Saturday 26th September, Vicky Roden will deliver a free resin casting workshop at Haden Hill House in Cradley Heath!

Join Vicky and four of her favourite features of Haden Hill House for a resin casting workshop. Every hour she’ll be introducing you to something that delights her inner heritage fangirl in this gorgeous 19th century gentleman's residence before leading you in a UV resin workshop to make something inspired by it.

Stay for the whole day or just drop in for a single session! The hour-long making sessions run from 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm.

Walk ups accepted if there’s space but booking recommended to avoid disappointment. As always refreshments will be provided by the Yam from Here team. No experience required!

This workshop will begin with a guided tour around Haden Hill House from Vicky, accompanied by a few facts about this gorgeous 19th centuty gentleman's residence and tales of its fascinating history.

Following that, Vicky will lead the group through the fundamentals of resin casting, giving participants the skills to encase an item of their choosing in clear UV curing resin and the superpower to immortalise the ephemeral! [Disclaimer: Does Not Work On Humans!]
