VE Day (Victory in Europe) was 80 years ago today. The end of hostilities and the defeat of fascism had been achieved through years of conflict and an untold amount of death and destruction.

For the men and women of the ATA this was the end. The service, with no reasons to exist in peacetime, was wound down and by the end of the year had ceased to be.

ATA reenactment

The group was established in 2016 by a group of Second World War reenactors who wanted to tell the inspirational stories of the men and women of the Air Transport Auxiliary. Since then we’ve become part of the Tail End Charlies RAF reenactment Group, giving us more scope and ability to tell the story of the ATA whilst drawing on their experience and members to offer additional roles such as WAAFs for ATA displays. We have always aimed to tell the inspirational, fascinating and amazing stories of the ATA and have had a presence at many major events including the Victory Show and RAF Cosford Airshow. We now have almost ten ATA members and are developing our first independent ATA displays to compliment any WW2 event.
