Thank you to our Employment & Training manager, Tracey, for sharing her journey from volunteer to manager, with the DRC!

"At 28, I was told I might never work again because of my disability. After always being in work, this had a huge impact on my confidence and mental health.

When my work coach suggested DRC, I thought, β€œWhat have I got to lose?” That decision changed my life.

I started volunteering in Job Club one day a week, supporting people into training, volunteering and employment. Seeing the difference I could make rebuilt my confidence and reminded me of the skills I still had.

Over time, volunteering led to a paid role, then senior advisor, and today I’m proud to be DRC’s Employment & Training Manager β€” 17 years later.

Someone believed in me when I needed it most, and it gave me a new lease of life."

Volunteering can open so many avenues for you as well πŸ’š

Thank you to Maxine for choosing to volunteer with the DRC, and sharing your experience πŸ’™

Maxine shared: "What started as a search for support became a life-changing journey - After finding DRC during a difficult period, volunteering has opened the door to finding confidence, purpose, connection and a renewed belief in what was possible. From helping on reception to becoming a valued member of staff, my journey is a powerful reminder to all of the impact volunteering β€” and supportive people β€” can have."

Thank you - Katie for everything you do at the DRC!

Katie shared her experience for Volunteers Week: "After more than 20 years away from work, fear and having a disability, I felt that returning to employment was out of reach. Volunteering at DRC changed everything. I started on reception in 2023 and built confidence, skills as well as a sense of belonging. This role lead to a paid role just a few months later. Today, I love coming to work, take pride in supporting clients, and I'm proud to be part of the DRC team." ⭐
