Removing ragwort is essential to the farm animals in the countryside.
We leave some ragwort separate to any animals to ensure these gorgeous caterpillars and in turn moths can thrive.

The Cinnabar moth feeds almost exclusively on ragwort; they store the toxins from this plant, and when they become moths they become a vibrant red and black to warn predators away.

To learn more about Cinnabar moths check out the wildlife trust https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/invertebrates/moths/cinnabar

Finds on the farm:

Female Nursery web spider (Pisaura mirabilis) carrying a large, silken egg sac in her fangs.Unlike many spiders that attach their egg sacs to webs, these spiders carry them until they are ready to build a "nursery tent" for the spiderlings to hatch. The species is commonly found in meadows and forest edges, where they hunt actively rather than using a web to trap prey
