Meet Ted 🐈

Handsome Ted arrived in our care last week.

His owner reached out to us to say they were really struggling with Ted's behaviour, which had been described as violent, and they believed he may be feral.

They explained that Ted had caused damage within the home and that both members of the household had been injured by him, but it didn't take long for us to realise there was more to the story.

After we went out to assess Ted, it became clear that there were factors within his home environment that were having a significant impact on his welfare and behaviour 😥

As we got to know Ted, it was apparent that there were underlying reasons behind the difficulties his owners had been experiencing.
We won't go into too much detail, but Ted had not been able to comfortably express many of his natural feline behaviours, which was having a clear impact on his wellbeing.

When we met him, Ted came straight over to investigate us, accepted some gentle fusses and happily enjoyed a Lick e Lix treat. We could see that he was worried within his surroundings and is naturally a cautious boy who can be easily startled.
After speaking with his owner, we explained that we felt Ted would settle well at the sanctuary, despite initially thinking he may struggle based on what we had been told. We didn't have a space available immediately and have had to squeeze him in when we are already full, but we felt his welfare needed prioritising and that both Ted and his owners required support 🧡

Whilst Ted had been responsibly neutered and vaccinated, he was not a happy cat in his previous environment.

We often hear the term "feral" used incorrectly. A feral cat is a cat that is not domesticated and actively avoids human contact. They do not seek out people and generally fear human interaction.

Since coming into our care, Ted initially hid away and seemed quite nervous. However, in a very short space of time, he has started coming out of hiding and is now enjoying cuddles, affection and playtime. He is proving to be a very sweet and loving boy who simply needs the right environment to thrive.🥰

Please can we politely ask for no negative comments!

Ted's story shows just why rehoming checks are so important. We often hear that rescues are too strict, but our policies and assessments are in place for a reason: to protect the health, welfare and wellbeing of the animals in our care and to ensure they are matched with environments that meet their needs.

Ted will be having a vet check this coming week and, all being well, will soon be ready to start his search for a forever home once we've had a little more time to get to know him.

One thing we do know already is that Ted is not a fan of the great outdoors! Being outside makes him very worried, so he will be looking for a safe and secure indoor-only home 🏠

Keep an eye out for more Ted updates 🖤🤍

🐰Here are some of our rabbits enjoying their toys and tunnels 🐇

It's important that rabbits have plenty of enrichment items to help their bodies and minds stay active!
Toys and tunnels are great items to add to your rabbits' environment as they encourage your rabbits to display their natural behaviours and keep them mobile.
Different enrichment items get your rabbits to use different parts of their brains and bodies 🧡

🐾Sweet boy Crumpet looking very handsome in his coat 🥰

We are so lucky and incredibly grateful for all the support we get including the donated coats we receive!

Crumpet can be a notorious coat killer but also hates being wet or cold 🙈 thankfully we managed to get by and even squeezed him into several greyhound jumpers with adjustments ✂️ made (it might not have look pretty but it was functional and kept him warm 🤣)

Then we were super lucky to have this and a few other coats donated that fit him perfectly!!

Thankfully now it's warmer but we still have the occasional storm with hail and heavy rain like we did this week so we are really grateful to have his lightweight coat to keep him dry 🧡

So we just wanted to say thank you to all our amazing supporters who drop off bits to us, coats, leads, harnesses, and other bits as it all does make a difference in helping us care for our animals and we are so lucky to have so many options from all the kind donations we receive🧡🐾

Charlie Update 😺❤️‍🩹

Our brave boy Charlie recently had most of his tail amputated after losing all feeling in it, which we suspect was due to a previous injury or trauma.

As Charlie would often drag his tail behind him, there was a risk of it becoming caught or injured, so surgery was the best option to keep him safe and comfortable.

We are happy to share that Charlie is recovering well from his operation on Monday and had a dressing change at the vets this morning ❤️‍🩹

Despite everything Charlie is still his usual loving self 🥰 enjoying plenty of cuddles with his carer and some social time with his pen neighbour, Daisie-May 🫶🏻

😺❗Poorly kittens need your help❗😺

Some of our kittens, including sweet boy Sloth (pictured) are feeling a little poorly at the moment and are being treated for sickness and diarrhoea 😔
To help settle their tummies, they are currently on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal pouches.

Unfortunately, we are now running VERY LOW on this food.
We also have a small number of cats and kittens on Blink Adult and Kitten Jelly pouches which we are also running low on.

If anyone is able to donate or purchase any of these foods, we would be incredibly grateful for your support 🙏🏻 🧡

🐾 All of these foods can be found on our Amazon Wishlist, and Blink food is also available in some local shops if you would prefer to buy it directly.
