Exciting times are ahead for Kingstanding, and Friends of Conker Island have been thrilled to work with other local groups to make sure we make the most of the opportunities Pride in Place will bring.

What a productive day we had yesterday! Out of place tree seedlings removed, nearly 450 bulbs planted, 3 bags of rubbish collected (including poles and jagged plastic cones left in the grass by people letting off fireworks the night before).

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Val at Wylde Green URC, Boldmere, and J.Parker’s for their generosity that led to us being donated these bulbs. Another thank you goes out to the 11 volunteers that came out to show some love for the park and their community. Without their support, there would be no group at all.

🤞the daffodils look beautiful come the spring!

Exciting news from the Friends of Conker Island ! 🌼They’re hosting their very first bulb planting event this Sunday, 3rd November, 11am - 1pm at Conker Island, Kingstanding, B44 0QN.

With a generous donation of 450 daffodil bulbs, they’re looking forward to brightening up this green space - but they need a helping hand from the community! Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join in, lend some support, and make a positive impact. Let’s help spread the word and make this event a great success! 🙌💚

Due to the issue with balloons in the local area just recently, some of the Friends of Conker Island team went out today and volunteered nearly 4 hours clearing litter on the island. This included glass bottles, vapes, smoke cannons, fast food waste, and a HUGE number of balloons and their ties. Many of the balloons had burst into small pieces and were left to cover the surrounding area. 5 bags in total collected - the same as the age of our youngest volunteer. Thank you for your time, everyone out today! Birmingham Open Spaces Forum
