โ—If someone has an illness that wonโ€™t get better, why do they have to keep proving theyโ€™re still ill to get support?

๐Ÿ‘‰ We donโ€™t think they should have to.

Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re calling on the government to stop benefit reassessments for people living with a terminal illness and for people with progressive, life-limiting illnesses.

Reassessments add stress, worry and paperwork at a time when people are already dealing with so much.

Weโ€™re asking for the government to change this so people can quickly access support WITHOUT the stress of repeated reassessments. Are you with us? ๐Ÿ’›

Kayleigh's Nan was cared for in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by loved ones, and her family were able to receive practical and emotional support at the time they needed it most.
Kayleigh is therefore hosting a Fundraising Event, partly in aid of Marie Curie, at the Knowle Royal British Legion on June 20th at 7pm.
With a raffle, music and games for all the family, it looks set to be a great event! Get your tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/kayleighs-fundraising-event-tickets-1980709980872?aff=oddtdtcreator
Thank you in advance to Kayleigh and her family.
We can't wait to see people there and raise vital funds to support people at the end of their lives ๐Ÿ’›

โ€œThere are so many people for whom cancer is part of their life, and I get it; you just want to move on and put it in the past or park it to the side. But check-ups are incredibly important. It can be daunting and triggering, but please be mindful of just how vital they are โ€” and reach out for help if you need it. Youโ€™re not alone.โ€ โ€”

In her new Netflix documentary, Moingue opens up about being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36 in 2005, as well as a second cancer diagnosis in 2021 that she chose to keep private until now.

Minogue shared that she was diagnosed after a routine check-up and hopes her story serves as โ€œa gentle reminderโ€ about the importance of staying on top of screenings and follow-up care.

We appreciate her decision to speak openly about her experience and help raise awareness about the importance of early detection, routine screenings, and check-ups.

How are you navigating life after diagnosis? Every experience is different, and there is no right or wrong way to move through it. No matter where you are in your journey, you are not alone. ๐Ÿ’œ

May 18th marks the beginning of Dementia Action Week.

This week is all about encouraging everyone across the UK to take action in support of people affected by dementia. The Alzheimer's Society are the champions behind this week-long campaign in an effort to raise awareness, challenge stigma and to establish and maintain a dementia-friendly society where those living with dementia can live well and feel understood and supported.
From individuals to organisations, Alzheimer's Society are encouraging people to act on dementia and aims to improve the lives of those affected by dementia. This is now more important than ever as nearly 1 million people in the UK are living with dementia.
Early diagnosis and support can greatly improve quality of life and increased understanding can help to reduce isolation and stigma. By participating in Dementia Action Week, we can help build a society that recognizes and supports those living with dementia.

Marie Curie have partnered with Alzheimer's Society in a joint funding call to transform end of life care for people living with dementia and their loved ones. Despite being the leading cause of death in the UK, dementia remains one of the most under-served areas of palliative and end of life care. Together, Alzheimerโ€™s Society and Marie Curie are investing ยฃ1 million in pioneering research that will focus on improving end of life care.

This unique partnership supports five innovative research projects, each focused on improving how end of life care is delivered to people living with dementia โ€” and the families, friends and carers who support them. All projects are grounded in real-world impact and shaped by the voices of people with lived experience.

If you'd like to find out more about what we're doing to close this gap in end of life care, please watch our video here:https://youtu.be/D5HHHw2_Rn0?si=IObyPenDDK3PGmbF

This Dementia Action Week, please take a moment to research and see how you can help those living with dementia. Together we will improve the lives of those living with dementia and enhance palliative care for them too๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

Monday 11th May marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The mental health charity Mind summarised this year's awareness week perfectly: 'great mental health care isnโ€™t just clinical, itโ€™s human'.

At Marie Curie, we know how important mental wellbeing is, for our patients, their families and our staff. Bereavement can be even more tricky to navigate when you already struggle with your mental health which is why our family support teams, support telephone line and email service are available.

Marie Curie prioritises staff wellbeing and recognises the impact of mental health on patients and their families, which is why we pride ourselves on the holistic care we offer.
Our confidential support line is available on 0800 090 2309. Lines are open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am-4pm.
If youโ€™d prefer to speak with our Support Line another way, or the phone line is closed, you can send us an email on [email protected]. Our friendly team aim to answer all emails within 48 working hours.

"My role is to help people by offering practical information, as well as emotional support, to anybody affected by a terminal illness or whoโ€™s bereaved. We provide a safe space to talk, and weโ€™re that listening ear." - David, Support Line Officer.

This week we encourage people to try and have open conversations about their mental health, as well as bereavement. There is always someone who cares, you are never alone ๐Ÿ’›
