Yes you heard correctly - we have TWO WHOLE DAYS of societies for you, on top of the MedSoc fair!

The second day of societies fair will feature mainly academic, religious and belief, cultural and international, and political societies, as well as our fantastic volunteering groups!

It's less than two weeks until Welcome Week and we are SO excited to see you!

Birmingham Medical Society, or MedSoc, is a student-run society for those studying in the University's College of Medical & Dental Sciences. You can check out the MedSoc Fair to meet MedSoc societies, sports teams, and charities!

Want to help the survival of some of our student groups?

Why not take a look at this list of societies, who need your help to continue. These could be societies who have failed to elect students onto their committees, or student groups who need members in order to stay as an affiliated group.

The Save A Society scheme aims to make once-popular groups easier to start back up, with all their assets maintained. If you'd like to get a group going again, drop us a message and we'll get you started!

Committee members: remember you need to purchase membership by the 13th of August so that we can assign you admin access on the Guild website.

- Grant Requests for Term 1 are now open!
- Registration for Welcome Week activities including societies' fair is open!
- Annual Risk Assessments need submitting before September!

Society of the Month winner for June is…. the Public Speaking Society 🙌

The Public Speaking Society at UoB has existed since 2013!

When their committee first took their posts at the beginning of the year, they began co-ordinating and planning new initiatives, sessions, and ideas to work towards.

In order to turn the Public Speaking Society into a growing and flourishing community of avid public speakers.

During this academic year, their main achievements consisted of:

✅ Holding their first ever UoB Public Speaking Competition, which turned out to be a major success!
✅ Continuing to run weekly Public Speaking sessions throughout the academic year, involving hearing prepared speeches from their members, workshops on how to improve advocacy skills, and fun rounds of table-topics (impromptu speeches)
✅ More than doubling their society membership this academic year compared to 2021/2022
✅ Collaborating with other societies and Universities

These are just a few of the amazing successes the group has achieved this year, and we can’t wait to see what they do next! Guild of Students, University of Birmingham
