🎶 WHO ARE THE CHOIR TEAM? 🎵
Meet... Martin!
Martin says:
"My name is Martin Trotman and I am the music director for the Wellbeing Community Choir. I have been leading the choir now for almost two decades, initiated by NHS Trust, now run as a non-profit organisation.
My interest in music began at the tender age of five, when my parents rescued a piano about to be discarded for refuge. I would often find myself playing and experimenting, developing a keen musical ear. Later, I was offered tuition from a close friend where I learnt the basic rudiments of music. After a while I was introduced to a classical and jazz pianist, Chris Bolton, and expanded my musical vocabulary and technical proficiency.
Throughout my teens, I developed focus, a deeper awareness, and seriousness for music, with increasing opportunities to play in church and local gospel community concerts. Some years later I auditioned at the Birmingham Conservatoire where I studied piano and composition and was awarded Bachelor of Music with Honours. I then studied for a teaching degree and went on to lecture at South Birmingham College and later at a secondary school.
After teaching for almost a decade I left the mainstream education practice and became a full-time musician working in the industry. This has included working on the pop circuit including theatre tours, recording sessions, writing and producing music both here in the UK and abroad, as well as directing my beloved choir.
I thoroughly enjoy leading the choir. It’s a labour of love for me. I understand the power of music. It brings people together from all backgrounds and joy to so many people. I believe it brings medicine to the soul. Why would I want to do anything else?"
It's certainly true to say that without Martin, there would be no Wellbeing Community Choir, so thank you, Martin, for all that you do for us! 🤩
