Could you spare a little time to help out at Stirchley Library?

Friends of Stirchley Library are looking for a few more volunteers to help us keep the library open and support some of our regular activities.

We’re currently looking for volunteers to:

Help keep the library open on Tuesday and Saturday lunchtimes - roughly 12.45–2.15pm.

Help at our Mending Café - we’re looking for someone with an interest in sewing, mending or similar crafts to help out once a month, on the first Saturday, 10am–12pm.

Help at our Coffee Morning on Tuesdays - roughly 10.30am–12pm. This could be weekly or when you can spare some time.

You don’t need to be an expert or have lots of volunteering experience - just a willingness to get involved and help make the library a welcoming place for everyone.

Mending Cafe is back this month with a needle felting special!

Bring a holey woolly garment to mend & we'll provide equipment.

Come along this Saturday (3rd October) between 10am-12pm to bring your jumpers and other woollies (and anything else you need to mend) a fresh lease of life!

Free tea, coffee & biscuits.

With the very exciting news that Stirchley Library will be opening again on Thursdays, we will be celebrating on the first Thursday back - with cake! And locally-made LOAF cakes too.

The first 50 people into the library will get a free cake, and we invite everyone to add their ideas for future Thursday events to our "Thursday Wish Tree", or to celebrate the community in both Stirchley and at Stirchley Library by creating a big jigsaw piece - showing how the community all fits together!

We look forward to seeing you! It's on Thursday 24th September - all day. But come early if you want LOAF cake!

We'll be creating a mural in the children's library, making Stirchley from old photographs and from imaginations to display on the wall.

Suitable for all ages with adult supervision.

Mending Cafe is back to its usual spot on the first Saturday of the month in September. Come and join us on Saturday 5th with something that needs mending or reworking - advice and support from our expert mender, Theresa.

Whether you have something old that needs renewing, or something new that needs altering, Mending Cafe is a friendly, welcoming space for all.

Join us for tea, biscuits, and renewable clothing in a fast fashion world!

This week we looked at Exposure by Wilfred Owen and next Tuesday it will be Bayonet Charge by Ted Hughes!

If you have a child doing their GCSE's these are part of the curriculum of most local schools.

We still have a couple of places free for the session next week. Email Jen at [email protected] if you'd like to book a place.

GCSE POETRY WORKSHOPS
Free to attend.

Two one-off workshops with an English tutor - exploring the Power & Conflict anthology

Tuesdays 18th and 25th August - 12.30-2pm (a different poem each week).

These are group workshops discussing poems studied at GCSE. We'll consider context, form, structure, and language used by poets.

Parents need to stay on site during the workshop - there's free tea and coffee...and lots of books to read.
