We are a female employment charity that dresses and coaches women for interview and job success. Smart Works is built on a simple idea.

Smart Works Birmingham provides high quality clothing and coaching to unemployed women with upcoming job interviews. Our service aims to help out clients to feel confident, look fabulous, succeed at their job interview and move on with their life. When a woman looks and feels her best, she is able to succeed. We take this simple truth and give it a profound impact. Part of Smart Works Charity, we

launched in summer 2016 and have supported 1,500 women before their job interviews. 67% got the job. If you are a woman based in the West Midlands and are unemployed with a job confirmed job interview for a paid position, ask your employment advisor or someone who is helping you to find work to refer you to Smart Works Birmingham. They can make a quick call to us on 0121 643 8109 and we can make you an appointment at our centre in Birmingham city centre. In 2020 we introduced our Career Coaching service to support unemployed women to get them closer to an interview. We can help with updating CVs, skills matching, how and where to look for work, the application form through to preparing for interview.

Smart Works Birmingham Empowers Diverse Communities Across the Midlands 💙

Last year, Smart Works Birmingham launched Empowering Diverse Communities, a programme designed to provide additional, tailored support to women across Birmingham and the West Midlands facing greater barriers to employment.

One year on, we are proud to report:
✨ 47% of our clients are under the age of 30
✨ 13% identify as having a disability
✨ 70% are from ethnic minority backgrounds
✨ 40 clients are currently serving a custodial sentence

Whilst these figures are encouraging, we recognise that there is still much more to be done.

It costs £362 to support one woman through the local Smart Works service.

✨ VOLUNTEERS WANTED – SMART WORKS BIRMINGHAM POP-UP SHOP ✨

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support the Smart Works Birmingham pop-up shop in LinkStreet (between Grand Central & the Bullring)! You can volunteer for as many or as little days as you want, if you’re interested!

📍 The Opportunity
🗓 w/c 26 January – 28 February
🛍 Location: LinkStreet, Birmingham city centre

You’ll gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced retail environment, helping with customer service, operating the till, maintaining shop presentation, steaming & replenishing stock, organising the stock-room, supporting day-to-day store operations.

⏰ Shifts
✔ Available Shifts: 10am–6pm, 10am–3pm or 1pm–6pm
✔ Shop open 7 days a week
🌟 This is a perfect opportunity to gain practical retail advice, build customer service, learn how a retail store operates, and support a charity making a real difference!

✨ They’re ready for their interviews!

We’ve had a wonderful start to the new year since reopening last week, supporting some incredible clients ahead of their interviews with tailored styling and coaching sessions. 🩵

The two clients photographed are just some of the women we’ve supported so far, and one shared: “It has been such a wonderful experience with fantastic people who have been incredibly encouraging and have helped me feel so much more positive.”

We’re so proud to be a part of every client’s journey and wish them the very best of success! 💙
