Calling all teachers 📢

This refugee week, we are super excited to be launching our new schools pack, offering a template to start crucial discussions around refugees

The pack offers free resources to local schools to teach their students about what refugees are, UK laws around seeking asylum, and refugee experiences in transit and when arriving in the UK.

With slides that can be tailored to primary and secondary school classes, and accompanying worksheets - we are really excited to share this with educators and are more than happy to talk you through the resources.

📢 Volunteer Call Out!

Kings Heath Action for Refugees are looking for volunteers to work with our grassroots charity and support our fundraising efforts.

This will mostly involve getting involved in designing and selling our original merchandise at markets across South Birmingham, and having conversations with the public about how and why we support refugees across the city (we will support you with this!) 🛍️

Giving as little or as much time as you are able, we are particularly looking for people who would be interested in helping us to raise funds supporting refugeees and asylum seekers in Birmingham and in transit through Europe.

KHAR AGM 2026✨ one of our favourite days of the year, reflecting on our progress, successes and why we do what we do. We get so excited projecting forwards to our projects and plans for the next year. We will continue working hard to support refugees in Birmingham, as well as overall social change. And we couldn’t do it without our wonderful community! Thank you so much for your support this year: people need people ❤️ watch this space for KHAR’s adventures and opportunities in 2026…

On Sunday our merry band of 20 elves (volunteers - seen here enjoying a well deserved samosa break!) came together to pack and deliver 846 packs of winter packs for Refugees in our city. 5 years ago we were just doing 65 packs - boy have we upped our game. This has rapidly become one of our favourite Christmas traditions!

The packs had toiletries, chocolate, a small gift and practical items like socks, gloves and a hat, each pack different to the next plus we had a whole box of toys for the children!

Thanks to all our volunteers who helped pack and distribute, everyone who bought and donated a pack, a T-Shirt, a keyring or shared a post for us. We couldn't do this without you!

And to the KHAR committee - who give up their time, skills and creativity and share their passion for making the world a better place, I couldn't be more proud!
