Birmingham Central Foodbank Birmingham Central Foodbank provides essential food and support to local people facing hardship. All food given out by foodbanks is donated.

ABOUT BIRMINGHAM CENTRAL FOODBANK

Today in Birmingham there are families and individuals struggling to put food on the table. For many people a sudden crisis, redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill – can mean going hungry. Birmingham Central Foodbank provides emergency food and support for local people in crisis. Our foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust‘s UK-wide network of over 400 foodbanks. The initiative is run by local churches across inner city Birmingham (including Ladywood, Edgbaston, Winson Green, Spring Hill and Hockley) working together alongside grass root community organisations, statutory agencies, frontline care professionals, schools and businesses to provide emergency food to people. Foodbanks help to prevent family breakdown, housing loss, crime and mental health problems and also take time to listen and signpost people to further support. HOW BIRMINGHAM CENTRAL FOODBANK WORKS

All the Food is donated by churches, businesses, schools, individuals and supermarkets , all food donated is non-perishable, in-date food to the foodbank. The foodbank is staff by volunteers. Care professionals including family support workers, social workers, homeless agencies, schools, children centres, women’s refuge and asylum seeker support agencies, identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a cup of tea and are able to signpost people to other support agencies. Read more about Birmingham Central Foodbank:

Once upon a time, our calendars were shaped by agriculture, with planting and harvest seasons marking the rhythm of the year. Harvest was a time to pause, count our blessings, and celebrate the abundance we had received by sharing generously with others.

Things may look a little different today, but the invitation remains the same: to take a moment to count our blessings, give thanks, and express that gratitude through generosity towards people in our local community who may be struggling to put food on the table.

Behind every referral is a person with their own circumstances, challenges, and hopes for the future.
When Sarah came to us, she was carrying a weight that felt impossible to bear. Through the support of our advice service, she was able to access the help she needed and secure greater stability for herself and her family.

A food parcel can provide immediate relief, but for many people, the challenges don't end there.

Behind the need for emergency food are often deeper issues: debt, benefit problems, rising costs, and unexpected life events that can leave people struggling to cope.

That's why, alongside food support, we provide access to expert debt and benefits advice through our partners at Birmingham Settlement.

The right advice at the right time can help someone increase their income, manage debt, access support they're entitled to, and begin to move beyond crisis.
To keep this service running through September and October, we need to raise £8,549.
