Meet the Leadership Team: Company Commander

Major Alex Potter is the Officer Commanding B ‘Al Basrah’ Company. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his previous service. As Company Commander, he leads and supports the detachments within his Company, overseeing training, standards, welfare and development, while ensuring Detachment Commanders and adult volunteers have what they need to provide the best possible opportunities for our cadets.

“As Company Commander, my role is to turn the Commandant’s direction into action, ensuring my staff are empowered and supported to deliver the best possible cadet experience. The most rewarding part is seeing cadets learn, develop and grow in confidence and capability. I also take great pride in recognising and celebrating the achievements of our staff and cadets. Meet the leadership Team: Company Commander

Major Chivers is the Officer Commanding A Company. Previously in charge of junior Ifficer development, Debbie now commands Normandy Company. Supported by a 2ic, training officer and CSM, she is responsible for implementing the Commandant's vision for her cadets, through effective leadership of the adult volunteers in her team.

Meet the Leadership Team: County Training Officer

Major Geoff Taylor is our CTO. Previously our MSO and then a Coy Commander, he now leads on all aspects of training and is responsible for ensuring cadets and adult volunteers receive the right training, from suitably qualified instructors, to the required standard.

This includes the planning and coordinating the county training programme, courses, exercises and camps; Maintaining training standards, safety and compliance with ACF/Army policy, coordinating instructors, training areas, equipment and other resources. He liaises with regional teams and much more. In short, the CTO is the county’s training manager and subject-matter lead—focused on the bigger picture of what training is needed, when, by whom and to what standard.

Meet the Leadership Team – Assistant Commandant (Cadets)

Major Tommy Nugent is our Assistant Commandant who looks after Cadets.

This involves overseeing the welfare and development of all our young people, ensuring their character development and inclusion.

Tommy also organises and facilitates our Cadet council and leads the welfare team that cares for Cadets on camps.

"I used to be a Company Commander, which I loved. Im now looking after the wellbeing of cadets from across the County and its really rewarding. I work with the cadet council and have a brilliant welfare team who support me in looking after the cadets." Major Nugent

Summer Lessons #2: Stand up straight

Standing tall has several impacts. It raises your presence and so how people perceive you. At the same time, good posture will make you look and feel good, increasing your confidence.

Perhaps the most important consequence will be what happens when you commit to this personal discipline. Make your outward posture a visual signal of your personal values and discipline. Soon it will spill over into every aspect of your life.

We very much recommend Major General Nanson's book 'Stand up straight' to you.

Meet the Leadership Team - Assistant Commandant (Adults)

Major Paul Curran is the Assistant Commandant responsible for all adult training. He oversees all training of adult volunteers from familiarisation to assessment and then ongoing continued professional development. He also organises the training of potential officers.

"My job is to oversee the training and development of CFAVs from new joiners and potential officers to the continuation of all adult development and governance.
To be entrusted with overseeing the team that trains the trainers and develops officers is truly an honour and one I couldn’t do it without the amazing team that works tirelessly to drive the training." Major Curran

Meet the Leadership Team – County CEO

Major Ronnie Walker is our County Cadet Executive Officer (CEO).

A veteran of the British Army, Ronnie joined the County’s professional support staff after leaving regular service and spent a number of years as part of the team he now leads.

As County CEO, Ronnie heads the professional team that works behind the scenes to support our adult volunteers and enable the County to deliver the very best experience for our cadets.

He also serves as our County Designated Safeguarding Officer, helping to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of our young people remains at the heart of everything we do.

Ronnie is an integral member of the County Leadership team ensuring that the County runs smoothly for the benefit of Cadet and CFAV alike.
