AFPU Reenactment Project

AFPU Reenactment Project To Reenact, recall and educate about the role of the British Army Film and Photographic Unit in World War 2.

If you have ever seen a "Newsreel" of "Press" image of British forces in action during WW2 the chances are it is not taken by a newsreel of press photographer but, by a member of the AFPU. The AFPU was established at Pinewood Studios London in 1940/41 to counter the fact that the Germans were not only "Kicking or Butts" at that point in the war but, were getting the better pictures whilst doing so

. AFPU Stills and Cine Photographers were recruited from across the British Army, they were first of all soldiers and then trained as combat photographers. On completion of their training at Pinewood they were given the rank of Sergeant and sent to of the operational AFPU units. I am re-enacting a Sgt Stills Photographer of No. 5 AFPU which was operational throughout the NW European campaign of 1944/45.
