Hawkesley Community Centre is having an upgrade to the multi-purpose sports hall, all thanks to funding from Pride in Place Impact Fund.

Their funding has enabled us to replace the heating and windows in the main hall, keeping our fantastic space energy efficient and ready for the cooler months ahead.

Northfield CAN Group would like to invite you and to a special event celebrating International Day of Older People 2026.

📅 Friday 2nd October 2026
⏰ 11am – 2pm
📍 Northfield Baptist Church, 789 Bristol Road South, Northfield, Birmingham, B31 2NQ

This year’s theme is “What’s on your doorstep?”, celebrating the people, places, groups and services that help us stay active, connected and independent in our local community.

The event is being led by Celebrating Age in Northfield (CAN) Older Persons Focus Group alongside Northfield Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS). It will be a relaxed and friendly community lunch, with plenty of opportunities to meet others, find out what’s available locally and have your say about what would make Northfield a more age-friendly place.

There will be:
• 🍽️ Food and refreshments
• 🤝 Opportunities to meet and connect with others
• 🎵 Music and entertainment
• 🧩 Fun activities to get involved in
• 💬 Conversations about what’s available locally and what could be improved
• 📋 Information about local groups, services and support
• 💙 An introduction to Celebrating Age in Northfield (CAN)

The event is free to attend, but places are limited to 50 people, so we are asking everyone to RSVP in advance.

📢 Join us at the Memory Matters Marketplace!

Are you supporting someone with memory concerns or dementia, or looking for information and advice for yourself?

Come along to the Memory Matters Marketplace at Alexander Stadium, Perry Barr on:
📅Wednesday 14 October 2026, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm.

This free event brings together a range of local organisations offering advice, guidance and support for people living with memory concerns or dementia, as well as their families and carers. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and find out about services available in your community.

Age Connects West Midlands will be there alongside Alzheimer's Society, Birmingham Mind, Admiral Nurses, Falls Prevention Service and many other local support organisations.
