Introducing our judges for the RBSA Prize 2026:

Robert Wenley
Deputy Director: Collections and Research at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts

Robert Wenley FSA has been the Deputy Director: Collections and Research at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, University of Birmingham since 2010, curating numerous exhibitions and displays. He was previously Curator of European Art, 1600-1800, at Glasgow Museums (2003-10), and Curator of Sculpture and Metalwork at the Wallace Collection, London (1991-2003).

Robert studied History at Durham University and Gallery Studies at the University of St Andrews. He has published widely on Dutch and Flemish Baroque painting, French Baroque bronzes, and the history of collecting.

He was Reviews Editor for the Sculpture Journal from 2000 to 2010 and has chaired the Specialist Advisory Board of the Public Statue and Sculpture Association since 2022. Robert is also Chair of Birmingham’s Public Picture Gallery Fund (founded 1871), a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, and an expert adviser to the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and the Acceptance in Lieu Committee.

Introducing our judges for the RBSA Prize 2026:

Sarah Priest
Regional Director for the Midlands, Bonhams Auctioneers

Sarah Priest is the Midlands Regional Director and travels extensively sharing her knowledge and experience that she has acquired in a 25-year career in the fine art auction industry.

Sarah holds a master’s degree in history of art from the University of St Andrews and is qualified as a valuer through the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. She spent several years running the regional specialist ceramics sales in the Midlands and Edinburgh, and since joining Bonhams, she has sourced many interesting and valuable items including a Meissen Bottger stoneware teapot, (circa 1710) which sold for £78,000, and a rare large Imperial carved polychrome lacquer ‘nine dragon box and cover which sold for £212,500.

Introducing our judges for the RBSA Prize 2026:

Clare Mullett
Head of University Collections at the University of Birmingham

Clare leads the University of Birmingham’s University Collections; a museum of the arts and sciences composed of collections housed across the University’s campuses. She oversees the interpretation, care, and management of a wide range of modern and historic artefacts, driving projects that engage staff, students, and the public with the collections.

During 25 years in the university museum sector, Clare has created and led teaching modules and curated countless exhibitions. Her work has always connected people, places, and objects. She has established hugely successful artist-in-residence schemes and founded the University Collections Study Centre - a base for research, teaching, and student placements.

Tomorrow is your last day to see Defence of the Realm, the wonderful exhibition from The Guild of Aviation Artists - GAvA

With around 180 works on display, all of which are for sale, there is plenty to see, and visitors have been astonished by the enormous breadth of talent being showcased.

The exhibition closes at 5.00pm tomorrow, and there is a full colour catalogue available for purchase in the Gallery Shop.
