A huge thank you to the young people across Birmingham who are volunteering their time, sharing their ideas and leading important conversations through the Volunteering for Health Programme.
Their work has gone on to develop into a network of student-led clubs in 10 schools, giving young people the chance to speak openly about health and wellbeing issues that matter to them and to share essential health messages with their wider communities too.
From mental health and sleep to healthy eating, women’s health and vaccination awareness, these young volunteers are showing leadership, compassion and commitment to improving wellbeing for their peers.
Thank you to every student involved, along with the school staff and NHS colleagues supporting the programme. The future of volunteering in health is in safe hands.

It’s Volunteers’ Week! 🎉

This week we’re celebrating the thousands of people across Birmingham who give their time, energy and kindness to help others and strengthen our communities every single day.

From supporting local groups and events, to helping tackle loneliness, improving health and wellbeing, and standing alongside people when they need it most — volunteers make a real difference. Thank you.

We’re also proud to celebrate a milestone for Volunteer Brum, with more than 4,000 people now signed up and ready to play their part in Birmingham.

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, there’s never been a better time to get involved. Whether you can spare a few hours occasionally or want to volunteer regularly, there are opportunities for everyone.

Great for our BVSC Team to be at the Conference this week hearing from MPs and experts on and Good news we're more than halfway to though we need to "spell out the prize" of better homes, and , make it "cheap, cool and easy" and support a so those most vulnerable don't get left behind. Working with trusted local groups like www.brumenergy.info giving energy advice to residents in feels more important than ever. Looking for partners to join us in the journey.

As comes to an end, we wanted to share something special.

A group of young volunteers from the programme created this video last autumn, working with the Neurodevelopmental Pathway team at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

It’s aimed at young people who might be asking themselves, “Do you think you’re autistic?” and it answers that question in a calm, supportive, and easy-to-understand way.

The video talks about common traits, how to get an assessment, and what help is available in the meantime. It also explains how schools can support young people and what happens when moving into adult services.

Most importantly, it’s made by young people, in their own voices, and that really shows. It’s a thoughtful piece of work, and they deserve a great deal of credit for it.

April is World Autism Acceptance Month. It is a time to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and build understanding of autism. It also reminds us that autistic people should be supported, understood, and valued.
