West Midlands CARE Team is a Birmingham based pre-hospital enhanced care team and charity

Each CARE Team shift consists of a minimum of a PHEM Doctor, a Nurse/Paramedic/ACP and a qualified blue light driver. We often have an extra trainee or observer on the shift and the majority of our team give up their time on an entirely voluntary basis for the charity. We typically put out up to 10 shifts a week supporting West Midlands Ambulance Service by attending only the highest acuity cases.

We add a wide range additional skills and experience to the most critical trauma and medical patients across Birmingham and the wider area.

Last month’s CARE Team session was all about cardiac arrest

A huge thank you to 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘀 and 𝗪𝗠𝗔𝗦 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗡𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻 for two fantastic talks:

🫀 Ryan took us through 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗣𝗥, looking at how we can optimise the fundamentals during resuscitation.

⚡ Niamh explored 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 and the additional considerations when the standard ALS approach isn’t quite enough.

We are proud to announce that we have reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening emergency care by awarding our annual £60,000 grant to the West Midlands Central Accident Resuscitation Emergency (CARE) Team, helping it to continue delivering advanced pre-hospital emergency care to critically ill and injured patients across the West Midlands.

Working in partnership with the West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust (WMAS), West Midlands CARE Team's volunteer doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare professionals provide enhanced clinical care at the scene of serious medical emergencies in their free time, bringing advanced hospital-level interventions directly to patients when every second counts.

Robert Bertram, Chief Executive of the HELP Appeal, said:

“The HELP Appeal is committed to improving every stage of patients’ emergency care, from the moment specialist clinicians arrive at the scene through to direct admission to hospital via a helipad. Supporting organisations like the West Midlands CARE Team is an important part of that commitment.

“The team’s highly skilled volunteers provide exceptional clinical care in the most challenging circumstances, delivering advanced treatments that can make the difference between life and death. We are delighted to continue our long-standing support with this annual £60,000 grant, helping ensure they can continue providing this outstanding service to communities across the West Midlands.”

We are delighted to announce the dates for the remaining 2026 CARE Team Sessions, starting again THIS month on Thursday 23rd July! 😍

Our famous in-person CPD evenings, held at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in South Birmingham!

Why? 🤔

Expert speakers deliver high quality and relevant CPD for a range of burning topics through a mix of lectures, case studies, demos and hands-on workshops!

Who? 🤷🏼

The topics we cover are broad but typically around Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) and therefore tend to appeal to students, Paramedics, Nurses, ACPs and Doctors - but all are welcome!

The West Midlands CARE Team were proud to be the chosen charity at this year’s Higgs Charity Football Tournament in Stourbridge ⚽

Our volunteers were blown away by the energy, generosity and community spirit on display throughout the day 🤩

Thousands were raised on the day and every pound helps us continue delivering advanced pre-hospital emergency care across the region, often at the most critical moments in people’s lives 💪🏼
