West Midlands CARE Team

West Midlands CARE Team is a Birmingham based pre-hospital enhanced care team and charity

Each CARE Team shift consists of a minimum of a PHEM Doctor, a Nurse/Paramedic/ACP and a qualified blue light driver. We often have an extra trainee or observer on the shift and the majority of our team give up their time on an entirely voluntary basis for the charity. We typically put out up to 10 shifts a week supporting West Midlands Ambulance Service by attending only the highest acuity cases.

We add a wide range additional skills and experience to the most critical trauma and medical patients across Birmingham and the wider area.

Well... what a weekend! 😅

Some of our amazing team again volunteered their days off to help facilitate the fantastic Warwick PHEMTEC across two action packed days to over fifty students 🤓

Across the weekend they delivered multiple workshops covering:

▪️CBRN/CRESS
▪️A-E assessments
▪️Splinting & packaging
▪️Ten Seconds Triage

On Saturday the team discussed Advanced Cardiac Arrest Management and demo’d the management of a refractory VF scenario ending with a post-ROSC PHEA! 😮

Sunday brought PHEMTECs infamous major incident / mass casualty simulation! 💪🏼

The organisers Warwick Medical School have generously agreed to donate any profits from the tickets sold to our charity! ❤️

🤩 What a day! 😅

Our own Dr Rachel and a brilliant team of dedicated CARE volunteers facilitated the 2026 Keele Trauma Course on Saturday 💪🏼

The team delivered a whopping 16 workshops, ran 64 sim scenarios for 72 student medics & student paramedics, delivered a lecture on ‘Major Trauma in Pregnancy’ and demo’d a maternal TCA/resuscitative hysterotomy scenario 🤯

The team were very happy at the end of the day to award the Charlie Crook award to medical student Jess, who it was felt displayed many of the wonderful characteristics that Charlie did ❤️

As thanks the Keele Trauma Course committee have donated a fantastic £500 for our charity 😍
