The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is the only charity in the UK dedicated solely to research into aplastic anaemia and the support of patients and their families. Many parents will currently be preparing for their children to return to school, or even start a new school in September, by buying new school uniform and equipment. However, this can be a difficult and anxious time for both children and parents affected by aplastic anaemia and other rare bone marrow failure conditions.

Physical needs your child might have at school might include:
- Needing to take medication or deal with side effects
- Extreme fatigue and excessive bruising, symptoms which might make taking part in activities more difficult
- Your child's central line might mean they can't take part in some contact sports or swimming lessons.

We can help you have these conversations with your school, and provide a guide you can give them.

If you are living with aplastic anaemia, or another rare bone marrow failure condition, why not join us at one of our in-person Coffee, Cake and Chat events in September?

These are a great way to meet other people who understand what it's like to live with a rare condition, and find out more about the support we offer. All are free to attend, and there's no need to pre-book.

Following on from the success of our very first Partners and Loved Ones Chat which took place last month, we're pleased to announce that we'll be running another session on Thursday 27th August at 1pm!

If you are supporting someone living with a rare bone marrow failure condition, this is a safe space for you to chat, laugh and even cry if needed with other people who understand what it's like.

Join Mandy, whose husband Gareth was diagnosed with AA back in 2018, and Lorraine, our Support and Outreach Programme Manager who will be there to welcome you to our friendly and informal chat session.
