ACS staff and foster families had a fantastic time at this year's Big Sing Off in Nottingham!
The annual event brings together staff, children, young people and foster families from across Polaris fostering agencies to celebrate music, creativity and community. This year's British pop theme was chosen by the children, who also designed the event logo, while performances featured favourites from One Direction, Queen and Steps.
Alongside the incredible performances, everyone enjoyed a fun-packed day of activities including a silent disco, dance workshops, face painting, arts and crafts, bouncy castles and plenty of delicious treats!
More than just a competition, the Big Sing Off is an opportunity for children, young people and foster families to come together, build connections and experience a real sense of belonging.
Congratulations to the winning choir for their brilliant performance of What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction, and well done to all the choirs who took part. Your hard work, dedication and perseverance deserve to be celebrated. 👏
We're already looking ahead to next year and hope to have an ACS choir of our own! 🎵💙

From a conversation at church to changing children's lives. 🌈

Sometimes, a single conversation can change the course of your life.

For Ruth, fostering first came onto her radar after hearing a member of her church share her own fostering journey. The more she learned, the more she felt drawn towards making a difference for children who needed stability, support and a place to belong.

Over the years, Ruth has seen firsthand the life-changing impact of fostering.

Why does cultural matching matter in fostering? 💙

In this clip from the Let's Talk About Fostering Podcast, ACS Referrals Officer Nikita shares why culture, faith and identity are important considerations when finding the right fostering family for a child.

Having grown up in care herself, Nikita understands first-hand how powerful it can be to feel understood and connected to your identity. For many children, being matched with parents who share or understand their culture, faith or heritage can help strengthen their sense of belonging and support them as they develop their identity.

At the same time, every child is different. Some young people, particularly older children who already have a strong sense of who they are, may feel less strongly about cultural matching. That's why listening to each child's wishes and feelings is such an important part of the process.

When a cultural match isn't possible, parents play a vital role in helping children stay connected to their faith, heritage, traditions and community, ensuring every part of their identity is recognised and celebrated.
