Progressive, student-led faith in action 🌈 We also work closely with University Chaplaincies and Churches to support students whilst at university.

The Student Christian Movement of Britain has been a quiet but powerful presence in university life since 1889, making us the oldest Christian student organisation in the UK. We are a radically inclusive, student-led, LGBTQ+ affirming Christian community, and we provide a home for students to explore an open-minded Christian faith, pursue justice, and discover the beauty of an ecumenical community

whilst at university. We are a fully student-led organisation; our trustees are all students, and our student membership shape the direction of the movement. Our membership is made up of individual students and recent graduates, and we support student-led groups in over 25 UK universities. Say hello to Ella, the newest member of the SCM team! She is the 2026/2027 Faith in Action Project Worker and is excited to be getting started ✊️

In my spare time I am a keen crocheter, avid reader, and nerdy TV watcher and often spend time trying to combine those interests together.

You can find us on our stall in the TakeAway every day, plus we'll be running a student meet-up on Saturday morning and the iconic SCM Young Voices is back for it's third year in a row! This year we have four young theologians talking on topics from “The Body of the Church as Disabled", to "Christian Theology in the Age of the Manosphere.” We hope to see you there!! 👋

This is a bittersweet time of year for SCM as we say goodbye to one Faith in Action worker and welcome the next!

Cat, our Faith in Action Project Worker for 25/26 has had a brilliant year travelling up and down the country delivering workshops to SCM communites on the rise of the far right and our response as Christians, the power of storytelling, and LGBTQ+ rights, as well as recording some excellent podcasts on everything from Eurovision to Pilgrimage, and organising and hosting panels on Asexuality and Faith, Working Class Theology, and the ethics of Generative AI (plus so much more)! We wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to Cat for all her hard work - you're a star! 🌈 ❤️

Episode three of Bitesize Theology with the iconic !

In this episode, priest and forensic psychistrist Charlie Bączyk-Bell gets us pondering the idea of sin, particularly personal sin. How does sin interact with what we know about human nature from a biological, psychological, or psychiatric perspective? What does it mean to be a human being in the light of 21st Century understandings of the human person from the sciences and how does that interact with our theological understanding?

What's on in this month with the Trans Theology Group! ⬇️

25th August - "Thérèse of Lisieux: humility, oppression, and boldness"

In this session, TTG member Jem will be introducing us to the life and work of Thérèse of Lisieux, a saint who some see as piously sentimental, and others as radically earnest. By placing Thérèse’s example of humility within the framework of oppression, we will consider how a bold sincerity can witness to God’s favour for the marginalised and imagine what her ‘little way’ might look like as trans people today.

Episode 2 of Bitesize Theology is with the wonderful Revd Dr Carlton Turner! Carlton is a is a Caribbean Contextual and Practical theologian working as a tutor in Contextual Theology and Mission Studies at the Queen’s Foundation, Birmingham. He writes and researches on themes around decolonisation, legacies of enslavement, and theologies of oppression.

In this epsiode, Carlton touches on how the difficult stuff of life - oppression of all kinds - requires us to do theology not as an abstract concept, but as embodied people. We could truly listen to Carlton all day, and we hope you enjoy his episode!

Another year, another pilgrimage from Coventry to Berlin completed! Once again our pilgrims had an impactful week learning about peace and reconciliation work, both past and present. Two of the pilgrims from this year's trip reflect:

"While the social aspect of the trip was wonderful, the thing that really stuck with me was how important it is to listen to a story from multiple angles. As a Brit, I always heard the story of WWII from the perspective of the victors; it was deeply profound and eye-opening to see a glimpse into the German cultural memory."

"One thing that stands out in my mind is the feeling of peace inside the rebuilt Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. You cannot hear the outside world and instead feel cradled within beautiful blue stained glass with the image of Jesus in front of you and with you. It is also a beautiful image of what can come out of destruction and reconciliation - the new church only exists because the original one was destroyed by bombs."
