What an incredible few weeks it’s been at Formidability!

In late June, we held opera singer auditions at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham, our office home, where we welcomed so many talented artists. It was a day filled with creativity and connection, led by Joanne, conductor Holly Mathieson, and our opera audition consultant Laura Attridge.

Yesterday, we wrapped up our audition season with our BSL Actors auditions in London with our panel of Joanne, Caroline Parker, Daryl Jackson, and accompanist Nigel Foster and BSL interpreter Jemima Hoadley.

Alongside this, we’ve been running interviews for our production team and have been amazed by the fantastic applicants joining us on this journey.

To everyone involved, our amazing team, panel members, applicants, and auditionees - thank you.

Here’s to continuing to create, inspire, and break barriers with formidAbility!

Artistry Unleashed

Extraordinary things happen when we see the human talent and skill, not the disability.

Inspired by her work singing with the British Paraorchestra, Joanne Roughton-Arnold (soprano) c0-founded formidAbility out of a passionate belief that we can find a new, more creative approach to accessibility both on and off stage. The company is a healthy mix of disabled and non-disabled professional artists creating work of the highest calibre, breaking down barriers and challenging perceptions of disability and inclusion in the arts. We make no compromise in artistic standards.

Accessibility is at the heart of formidability’s creative process, becoming artistic in its own right, something that touches the whole audience whether disabled or not.

“formidAbility is all about bringing people together to experience great art as human beings, and leaving aside any sense of ‘them and us’. We aim to make all our performances as accessible as possible, and to reflect the diversity of our audience in the artists appearing on stage. We are all enthralled by the extraordinary athletic feats of paralympians in the sporting arena, so why should the arts be any different?” - Joanne Roughton-Arnold
