This Carers Week, we want to recognise the incredible people who support family members, friends and loved ones every day - often quietly, often without calling themselves a “carer”.

Many people are helping someone with appointments, medication, shopping, emotional support, daily routines or simply making sure they are safe and okay. That support matters, and carers deserve to know they are not on their own.

Here's our team at the Carers Week event at Merry Hill, speaking with local residents, sharing information and helping people understand what support is available for carers in the local area. It was great to connect with people, hear real experiences and help raise awareness of the support that many carers may not even realise they can access.

If you are supporting someone, even if you do not see yourself as a carer, there may be help available for you too. Let's chat!

We joined the Sandwell Safer 6 launch event to connect with local residents, partners and community groups around safety, wellbeing and the issues affecting our communities.

Our young people were there leading important conversations about PCREF - the NHS anti-racism framework - and why tackling racial inequalities in mental health services matters.

They also spoke with local people about youth mental health, the growing NEET crisis, and what needs to change so more young people in Sandwell and across the West Midlands feel supported, heard and able to move forward.

Safer communities are not just about crime prevention. They are also about trust, opportunity, belonging and making sure young people are not left to struggle alone.

Could you be an unpaid carer and not realise it?
Many people support someone they love/ care about every day, but wouldn’t necessarily call themselves a “carer”.

You may be an unpaid carer if you:
- Regularly check in on someone who finds it hard to manage on their own
- Help with everyday tasks like shopping, cooking, cleaning, medication or appointments
- Support someone with their mental health, disability, addiction, illness or age-related needs
- Feel responsible for making sure someone is safe, organised or emotionally okay
- Put your own health, work, rest or social life to one side because someone relies on you

If this sounds familiar, you could be missing out on support...

We’re working with Dudley Council to make sure you know how to access the support you need. If you look after someone, even if you only do “little things”, it still counts.

Send us a message or complete the form here to get support you deserve: https://bit.ly/4fsYAeP

Big things are growing… 🌿

After a successful year of the Dudley Wellbeing Garden, we’ve started work on new spaces:

🌳 A woodland meadow filled with pollinator-friendly planting
💧 A new wildlife pond
🐝 A dedicated space for beekeeping (we can’t wait for this one!)

We’ve already planted two trees and laid the foundations - and this is just the beginning.

Watch this space 💚

If you'd like to get your hands a little dirty & help bring these new spaces to life - join our friendly gardening group. DM for details :)

Unpaid carers are residents who provide necessary, often round-the-clock, care for someone without being paid for their valuable time and support. This tireless commitment can come at a personal cost, and many unpaid carers miss out on the support they are entitled to.

We are proud to be working with Dudley Council to raise awareness and help more unpaid carers access the support they truly need.

If you care for a family member, friend, neighbour or loved one, you may be an unpaid carer - even if you don’t call yourself one.

Message us or complete the form so we can understand your situation and show you what support you may be able to access: https://bit.ly/4vtRmw2

We’d love to hear from parents and carers of young people aged 16-24 who are struggling with education, work or training, or who feel a bit stuck with their next steps. Please share your thoughts, even a short comment helps.

Parents and carers often see what young people are really struggling with, what gets in the way, who they trust, and what support does or doesn’t help - but those experiences don’t always get heard or used to shape future support.

By sharing what you’ve seen, you can help highlight where support is working, where it’s missing, and what needs to change for young people across the West Midlands.

You can share your thoughts below, DM us, or complete this short survey if you’d prefer to respond privately: https://bit.ly/4uksCWV

If you work in youth services, mentoring, education, mental health, community work or frontline support, in the West Midlands we would love your insight!

We’re researching young people aged 16-24 who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) - or at risk of these outcomes - and what could help prevent this earlier.

Your perspective will go straight to decision makers who are looking for answers on changing local systems across the West Midlands.

We'd love to have conversations with you, however you communicate best:

Write to us
Be on our next podcast,
Invite us to see something that is working well (or not working) in your area.. send a direct message, or email [email protected], or call us on 01216223603.

If surveys are fastest for you, we’d really value your insight: https://bit.ly/4waWndQ - or help us by sharing this with your network. Much appreciated!

Are you a parent or a carer? Are you supporting a young person who feels stuck?
They’re not in work...
College didn’t work out...
Maybe their wellbeing/mental health struggles affect things...
You’ve tried to get help and felt passed from place to place...

We want to understand what families are going through when young people aged 16-24 become disconnected from education, employment or training.

Please share with us your honest experience and views.

You can either complete the survey to share your views: https://bit.ly/4nmeIkc or sign up separately to register your interest in joining us for a relaxed focus group discussion with other parents and carers: https://bit.ly/4uksCWV
