We have been informed of the following via CGL (Change, Grow Live)
WMP colleagues have informed us of incidents in City Centre involving synthetic cannabinoids, where officers had been called to Corporation Street, Birmingham B4 6SE.
Two males were found unconscious after taking synthetics cannabinoids with one being attended to by paramedics and the other being taken to hospital. It is suspected that there is a bad batch of Mamba in the local supply.
Possible effects include:
Sudden collapse or loss of consciousness
Severe agitation, confusion, or psychosis
Seizures (fits)
Vomiting
Very slow or very fast breathing
Chest pain or heart problems
Effects can come on quickly and can be much stronger than expected.
Important: This chemical can make someone very unwell, or be potentially fatal, even if someone uses Mamba regularly.
Those that use Mamba regularly could be at higher risk as they may use more which increases the risk of collapse, seizures and breathing problems.
Harm Reduction:
If someone is using or thinking about using:
Avoid using this drug if possible
Encourage that if they do:
Use much less than usual (a tiny amount – Go low and go slow)
Do not use alone – use with someone who will help if you need it. At very least, use in an area with foot traffic so people can help if needed.
Try to avoid mixing with alcohol, opioids, benzos, or other drugs.
Take long breaks between uses (effects can be delayed)
Remember: it will look like Mamba usually does; there is no indicator to say it is a riskier batch.
Call 999 immediately if someone:
Collapses or can’t be woken
Has a seizure or fit
Has trouble breathing
Is extremely confused, aggressive, or distressed
Has chest pain
Tell emergency services “suspected synthetic cannabis / Spice”.
Never shake someone experiencing any of the above, it can increase the risk.
