Social Life Opportunities - Solo Embracing Disability, Empowering Lives To enable us to do this, we employ over 150 staff and work with up to 250 volunteers.

Established in 2000, SoLO now provides 1030 children and adults with learning disabilities with specialist social & leisure provisions, helping them increase their independence and self esteem.

🏏 Exercise is important, but it should be fun too!

Movement can support our physical health, lift our mood and help us feel good. It doesn’t need to be a workout or a trip to the gym. Games, activities and spending time outdoors all count.

And what better way to get moving than playing some cricket?

As you can see, some of our service users had a brilliant time joining in, playing games and having fun together at a cricket fun day!

💛 Every child is different, and their support should be too.

When a child joins SoLO, we take time to get to know them. We complete our own assessment and speak with their family about their needs, interests, communication and the support that helps them feel comfortable.

We then plan our support around them.

This may mean:

➡️ One-to-one support
➡️ Support within a small group, often at a 1:4 ratio
➡️ Adjustments to help them take part
➡️ Time and encouragement to try things at their own pace

Our sessions are designed to be fully inclusive and we look at how the activity and support can work for the individual child.

Enjoy music, games and prizes while helping to support our work with people with learning disabilities.

🎸 A rock n roll day out in Birmingham!

Recently some of our service users enjoyed a brilliant trip into Birmingham. Their first stop was Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, where they explored the Ozzy Osbourne exhibition and enjoyed learning more about the life, music and legacy of one of Birmingham’s biggest legends.

They then headed to Broad Street to visit the Black Sabbath Bench, which has become a place for fans and the local community to come together and remember Ozzy. 🖤

Everyone had a fantastic time taking in the exhibition, exploring the city and celebrating Birmingham’s incredible musical history.

☀️ Summer at SoLO

It’s back to school this week for many, but before the new term gets fully underway, let’s take a moment to look back at the brilliant summer we’ve had across our Children’s Services. 💛

Over 22 days, our team provided tailored support to each child and young person attending, helping them take part, try new things, have fun and make the most of their summer with us.

Children enjoyed Sensory Play Days, In-House Activity Days, Day Trips, a beach trip and our End of Summer Party! 🏖️🎉

Thank you to all the children, young people and families who joined us this summer, and to our staff for making it all happen!

🌟 Want your child to join our next holiday break?

Our next holiday breaks will run during October half-term. We’ll be sharing the details soon with our registered service users by email, so keep an eye out! 👀

🌻 Have you visited Becketts Farm Sunflower Fields yet?

One of our service users recently enjoyed a lovely day out, taking in the sunshine, exploring the sunflower fields and making the most of everything Becketts Farm has to offer. 💛

Haven’t been yet? There’s still time, with the sunflower fields open until 31st August!

And if you’re heading down this Saturday 22nd August, come and say hello! The SoLO team will have a stand at the Summer Garden Party from 11am–2pm. Come and meet the team and find out more about SoLO! 😃

🚨 SoLO Disco Update

❌ There is NO SoLO Disco this Wednesday (12 August).

Our usual venue, Kingshurst & District Labour Club, is being used to show the UEFA Super Cup Final, so we cannot use the venue this week.

We are sorry for the change.

💃 The SoLO Disco will be back next Wednesday (19 August).
🎤 And next week is Karaoke Night!

We hope to see you there! 😊

🌻Fancy a day out this Summer?

If you’re looking for the perfect day out, head to Becketts Farm’s Garden Party. Wander through the sunflower fields, treat yourself to an ice cream and enjoy a day out with family and friends!
