Wetter weather is back, and a few simple checks can make a big difference to your safety on the road.
Before you set off:
✅Check your tyres, tread depth and pressures
✅Make sure wipers are clean and working properly
✅Top up essential fluids
✅ Check all lights are functioning

When driving:
🚗 Slow down and leave extra time
🚗 Increase your following distance to at least 4 seconds
🚗 Be alert for standing water and slippery roads
🚗 Use headlights when visibility is reduced

After a long dry spell, roads can be especially slippery as oil and dust rise to the surface when rain falls.

Remember: the safest approach in wet weather is to give yourself more time, more space and more visibility.

Nappy sacks can pose a serious risk to babies if they are left within reach.

The thin plastic can stick to a baby's nose and mouth, making it difficult to breathe.
Stay safe by:
• Keeping nappy sacks out of reach of babies and young children at all times
• Never leaving them near a cot, pram, or changing area
• Disposing of used sacks as soon as possible after use

Drowning in babies is silent and can happen quickly.

Baby bath seats are not safety devices and are not designed to keep a baby safe if you step away.

Stay safe by:

• Never leave a baby alone in the bath, always stay within arm’s reach
• Avoiding distractions at bath time
• Never relying on children to supervise a baby in the bath
• Taking your baby with you if you need to leave the room

The recent wildfires in the UK are a reminder of how quickly fire can spread in hot, dry conditions. Many outdoor fires are preventable.

Remember
⚠️Avoid using disposable barbecues in parks, forests, moorlands, or near dry vegetation
⚠️Never leave a barbecue unattended and ensure it is fully extinguished before disposal
⚠️Do not place hot coals or ashes in bins
⚠️Pay attention to local fire risk warnings and follow any safety notices or restrictions
⚠️Small actions, and responsible behaviour, can help prevent major fires.
