Great to see work happening in the community to help with flooding

At Birmingham Open Spaces Forum we want to help all residents of the city to have the opportunity to enjoy the numerous advantages that come with spending time in parks and open spaces. To achieve this objective, we must gain a better understanding of how parks and open spaces are used, as well as our current membership, which includes its diversity and demographics.

Yesterday evening, Abi from Groundwork West Midlands (who has been supporting the FLAG) held a multi-agency meeting at Indestructible Paint. In attendance were local councillors, as well as representatives from the Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water, Birmingham City Council and the local community. They each provided updates since the previous meeting (in May) and discussed local flood risk and water quality.

Having noticed that the river channel monitoring camera (near the bridge on Formans Road) was becoming obscured by vegetation growth, Abi from Groundwork West Midlands reported it to the Environment Agency/Birmingham City Council. We are pleased to say that clearance work was carried out last week and the camera view is now clear - thank you to both organisations for their support.

River Cole & Tyseley Energy Park Litter Pick

Join the Birmingham Energy Institute and the local community to improve the local area with an organised monthly litter pick. Learn more about The River Cole and Tyseley Energy Park.

First litter pick will be on Thursday 20th October, starting at the Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre, Tyseley Energy Park, B25 8FJ. All equipment will be provided.

Blackberry Way Community Litter Pick
Friday 30th September
11.00 am – 1.00 pm

Join the Park Ranger and local people to help give the area a good clean up! Litter can block drains and contribute to flooding.

Litter pickers and gloves provided. Rough outdoor clothes, gloves and boots recommended. Suitable for most ages but children will need to be supervised.
