We want as many people as possible to explore their greenspaces for one day to record the birds they encounter. How many species can you spot in a day? Can you visit more than one greenspace? Will you spot any new species for your greenspace? 🌳

Frankley Housing Proposal Update: a summary of feedback.

Local concerns have been registered and reflected in the summary.

Developers largely underplay the significance of the site locally, and overestimate the infrastructure already in place.

What next?
β€’ Continued analysis of all representations received.
β€’ Additional evidence collection.
β€’ Further Consideration of alternative sites for potential
allocation.
β€’ Follow up and clarification of required infrastructure provision
to support future development options.

We couldn't help but feel a connection to Sarah Eberle's Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show. Called 'On the Edge' for the Campaign for Rural England, it sums up Bartley Reservoir and the surrounding green spaces.

The β€˜On the Edge’ garden highlights the often-overlooked edgelands – countryside areas on the fringes of towns and cities. These spaces, though undervalued and threatened, are vital for connecting people with nature in daily life.

Created in CPRE’s centenary year, the garden symbolises hope and resilience on our doorstep, and that with with the right care, these fragile places can recover and thrive for future generations ❀️

The bench that was pulled out in Bartley Meadows has now been reinstalled with anti-theft bars added.

This was at a cost to Friends of Bartley Reservoir of Β£319.00. This included removing the original concrete blocks at the base, adding anti-theft bars, reinstalling, labour, and removal of waste.

The benches were originally added with the agreement that we would pay for their maintenance where needed.

Please take care of our community assets.

Looking to take part in conservation?

Friends of Bartley Reservoir are looking for nature and conservationist enthusiasts to help record butterflies on a route along Bartley Reservoir. A good ability to identify butterfly types is preferable, and/or a willingness to learn them is essential.

This will be the third year we are doing this and it requires the same route to be walked at the same day and time each week. We are looking for people who can either take on the route themselves, share with anoither person, or step in when another person is on holiday or ill as an example.

Ideally suited to someone who already walks the reservoir frequently.

Get intouch with Kate via messaging us on Facebook.
