Our amazing Lou went to deliver some bibs to this morning and bumped into the lovely folk from . They provide all the washing powder for the hospice throughout the year. Nice little synchronisation of charitable giving...and who knew there were 5 Santas! If you feel you can help us make bibs, hats for the homeless or make banners and art murals from fabric then get in touch! We’re always on the lookout for talented home sewers to join our team 🎅🏻

Hello everyone!

Some of the 6ft x 3ft quilts we made for the AIDs and HIV memorial project are on display again in Birmingham Library from today.

Longer version:

Yesterday was World AIDS day

We make 6” by 3” quilts to educate, celebrate and remember folks who passed, facts about AIDS and HIV, and groups across the midlands that support and share knowledge about HIV.

The quilts are funded and supported by Saving Lives charity, and the Birmingham AIDS and HIV Memorial.

Recently we have moved to making “Empowering Quilts” for these wonderful charities, each of which represent someone living with HIV. They design the quilt, and we make it.

Anyway the big news is that the Empowering Quilts, each one representing a person with HIV, are all on display in Birmingham Library for 2 months from today so please go a visit if you get time.

This has been an ongoing project of ours since 2022 and we have made over 60 of these so far and we were filmed making them by the BBC a couple of years back!

Anyway, they’re on display, but if you want to see them and haven’t got the means or ability to get to the Library then here’s the picture of all the quilts. Each and every one was hand made or completed by our volunteer sewists and has our logo on if you squint (bottom right of each photo)

Thank you for your help and support in this ongoing project and we’ll let you know when the next ones come around, and see who’s up for a group stitch along 🙂

Thanks, Marcie xx

We recently dropped 54 drip bags to the QE.

They were gratefully received as they ran out!

We have got lots of fabric at the moment and lots of plain and some strongish colours.

Let us know if you fancy running up some drip bags or Mors bags, and we'll make sure you have what you need!

Hi everyone.

I know Summer isn't a great time to ask as I think people like to get out and about rather than sit inside sewing but if anyone can do a few of our regular items, that would be a great help as we have only a tiny number of regular sewers at the moment.

The main things we need are:

Morsbags (women’s aid)
Heart cushions (Ladies fighting breast cancer)
Drip bags (oncology)

If you fancy something else, we also need bibs for Acorns and cat carrier covers.

We can provide patterns, instructions, dimensions for anyone that fancies a go!

Thanks

Say hi to Butch!

He’s one of the cats over at the who’s been checking out the upcycled school jumper beds we’ve been making for

If you want to try your hand at upcycling some school uniforms into something useful for the animals please let us know! We’re saving old uniforms from landfill by making lovely things and we always welcome new volunteers 😻

PAUSED FOR NOW - THANKS TO AN AMAZING RESPONSE🪡Calling all crafters, creators and sewing stars... Do you have any fabric scraps you no longer need? We're looking for anything that can be used to make bunting - and other decorations - for our International Women's Day celebrations. They can be dropped off at our Balsall Heath Centre (228 Mary Street) or Moseley Shop (214-218 Alcester Road). 💖Thank you!
