As part of the Empowering Communities: Awareness and Prevention of Female Ge***al Mutilation in the West Midlands project, SOORA implemented a series of training workshops for representatives of refugee communities from diverse ethnic backgrounds across the West Midlands, particularly in Birmingham.
These workshops focused on raising general awareness about Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), highlighting the serious health risks, psychological consequences, legal implications, and long-term social impact of this harmful practice. The sessions also aimed to empower community representatives with knowledge and resources to support prevention efforts and promote safeguarding within their communities.

SOORA Virtual Dialogue Sessions: Healing the Past, Preventing Future Harm

SOORA will be delivering a series of free virtual dialogue sessions aimed at supporting survivors of hidden harms to reflect on their past experiences, promote healing, and explore practical ways to prevent such harms in the future.

The sessions will be conducted in English, with live translations available in Arabic and Somali to ensure inclusivity and wider participation across diverse communities.

These interactive dialogues will provide a safe and supportive space for survivors and community members to share experiences, learn about prevention strategies, and access information on available support services.
