1st Spen Valley Scout Group - Birkenshaw The 1st Spen Valley Scout Group was founded in 1924, and now over 100 years later we are still going strong!

This group is for anyone interested in our group including former members and people in the local community. We are the Scout group based in Birkenshaw and have been here since 1924! We have a very active Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer units within our group. We are always looking for more adult volunteers to help, if you are interested and would like to know more please get in touch!

1st Spen Valley Scouts have been in Birkenshaw for over 100 years, but I will be honest. We are struggling.

We have so many young people in the area but not enough adults to help them and give them

We currently have only 5 leaders across three sections supporting over 50 young people, and that’s not including the Explorer section we support too.

We don’t need master campers, knotting extraordinaries, campfire queens. We just want passionate people who are willing to give children amazing experiences.

All your training is provided and there’s plenty of friendly faces to help you along the way.

Apologies it’s taken us a while to post this!

Thank you to everyone who donated so generously to our collection at St. George’s day last month.

We raising an amazing £230 for Jasper’s Journey, a memorial fund for Cardiac Risk in the Young to raise money for heart screenings for young people.

Birkenshaw Scout and Guide Spring Fair
Saturday 16th May 2pm - 4pm

We are back with our annual fundraiser, with lots of stalls, games and much more! Come and support your local youth groups.

We are also doing some fundraising to send both Scouts and Guides on international trips so please come and support them!

It's also a fantastic time to come and learn more about what we do, so please come and say hello!

Upcoming Event Notice: St. George’s Day Celebrations

On Sunday 19th April, the 1st Spen Valley Scouts (Birkenshaw) will be hosting the annual district St. George’s Day celebrations at St Paul's Church Birkenshaw.

Part of our celebrations will include a short parade around the churchyard before a private service inside St. Paul’s. To keep our young people safe, we will be implementing the following temporary measures:

Car Park Closure: The church car park will be closed from 1:40pm and will reopen at approximately 3:45pm.

Churchyard Access: We will be restricting entry to the churchyard between 2:10pm and 2:30pm while the parade takes place.
There may be some added congestion around St. Paul’s Church, and we have asked participants to please park considerately for our neighbours.

We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused as we ensure the safety of all our attendees. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to reach out through instant messenger on this page.
