You may have seen news reports about possible changes to social media and YouTube access for under 16s.
For many neurodivergent children, these platforms are much more than entertainment. They can be part of a daily routine, a way to relax, enjoy special interests and feel calm and safe.
Not all children will understand what is happening, some may show they are worried through changes in their behaviour, emotions or routines.
There is no perfect replacement for YouTube or social media. Instead, think about what your child gets from these platforms. Is it the music? Their favourite characters? Learning about dinosaurs, trains or Minecraft? Is it the routine of watching the same videos each day?
Once you know why your child enjoys it, it may be easier to find other ways to meet that need. This could be through TV apps, music, audiobooks, favourite programmes, sensory apps, games, toys or activities linked to their special interests.
