At Spark, young people are being their own boss. ✨

We're excited to announce the Business Bootcamp Expo is happening very soon.

Come to Spark and see how far the young entrepreneurs have come, hear their stories of struggle and overcoming it, and share their success.

We couldn't be more proud of them all, their hard work is proof that young people CAN do it. It's not age, it's your resolve that drives success.

Your postcode doesn't define your potential.

It's National Social Mobility Day! ✨

To that end, Our 100 opportunities campaign is a call to action. We're asking employers for at least ONE opportunity that could make a difference, whether that would be work experience, volunteering or employment. Open a door, change a future.

As well as this, we had the pleasure of visiting Aviva in Liverpool again yesterday, who've done much for our young members to raise their aspirations with guaranteed interviews, and many Meet The Employer sessions ran by them in our hub!

Our members got a real insight into the office environment and the potential spaces they could one day be working in.

A big thank you to Aviva for welcoming us back!

Spark Youth was founded with the mission to not only get young people into work, but to encourage them go beyond what they think their limits.

Inspiring the next generation starts with industry engagement.

Our Meet The Employer sessions show the value of connecting employers directly with young people and emerging talent. By inviting Zen Educate into our hub, young people gain the opportunity to interact directly with expert in education about opportunities, what it's like working in education and advice on engaging with active roles.

These sessions are more than presentations or exposure to new opportunities, they are doors that are waiting to be opened. The whole session is to inspire, inform, and create meaningful connections between industry and the next generation of professionals. Whether highlighting opportunities within your sector, discussing skills and career progression, or sharing your organisation's journey, your contribution can have a lasting impact.

We are always looking to expand our network of employer partners who are passionate about supporting talent development and bridging the gap between employer and young people. If your organisation would be interested in delivering a future Meet The Employer session, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can work together.

By investing a small amount of time, businesses can play a significant role in raising aspirations, broadening horizons, and helping young people better understand the opportunities available to them.

If you would like to explore how your organisation could get involved, please get in touch. Together, we can help build stronger pathways between youth, employment, and future success for our young people.

Looking to get into education, support work, or flexible roles in schools? Then we have the session you've been looking for!

We’ve partnered with Zen Educate to give you direct access to an employer who’s actively recruiting right now. You'll get clear routes into roles, real insight into working in the classroom and support from our team on what's next.

The session is designed to boost awareness of opportunities, clarity, and confidence to pursue roles within education.

Open a Door. Change a Future.

This National Volunteers’ Week, we’re asking local businesses to help create 100 new opportunities for young people across Wirral.

At Spark Youth in Birkenhead, we work with young people aged 16 to 25 who are ready to move forward but need the right opportunity to get started.
That could be:
β€’ Work experience
β€’ A workplace visit
β€’ Mentoring
β€’ Apprenticeships or jobs
β€’ Support with CVs or interviews

Last year, we supported over 1,000 young people, with more than 300 progressing into employment, education or training. Behind each of those outcomes is a young person embracing change an employer who chose to give someone a chance.

If you know a local business who could help, please tag them or share this post. If you're a young person wanting to be 1 of those 100 and based in Wirral - get in touch!

Together, we can open more doors for young people on Wirral.

🌟 National Volunteer Week Spotlight: Our Board of Trustees 🌟

As National Volunteer Week continues, we'd like to recognise a group of volunteers whose contribution is often unseen by many, but whose impact helps shape everything we do at Spark.

Our Board of Trustees generously volunteer their time, expertise and professional experience to help guide the organisation, provide strategic leadership and ensure we continue creating opportunities that empower young people across our communities.

We would like to thank:

πŸ”Ή James Aspden – Chair
πŸ”Ή Dr Fiona Armstrong-Gibbs – Vice Chair
πŸ”Ή James Gregory – Trustee
πŸ”Ή Jennifer Downes – Trustee
πŸ”Ή Gary Devaney – Trustee

Each trustee brings a unique blend of skills, knowledge and experience from their professional careers, helping Spark remain ambitious, sustainable and focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for young people.

Their role extends far beyond attending meetings. They provide guidance, challenge, oversight and support, helping us strengthen partnerships, identify opportunities for growth and ensure we remain true to our mission of helping young people build confidence, develop skills and unlock their potential.

As volunteers, they dedicate countless hours behind the scenes to support our team, champion our work and help shape the future of the organisation.

We are incredibly grateful for their commitment, passion and leadership.

Thank you, James, Fiona, James, Jennifer and Gary, for everything you do for Spark and the young people we serve. πŸ’™

🌟 National Volunteer Week Spotlight 🌟

As National Volunteer Week continues, we'd like to recognise and thank two remarkable volunteers who are helping to shape brighter futures for young people through our Business Bootcamp programme.

πŸ’‘ Rianne Pimblett first joined Spark as a participant on our Business Bootcamp two years ago. Having experienced the programme herself, she has now returned as our Entrepreneur in Residence, supporting the next generation of young entrepreneurs as they develop their ideas, confidence and business skills.

Rianne has also been leading our cohort's fundraising challenge, helping participants work together to raise funds that will support future young entrepreneurs. So far, the group has organised a sponsored litter pick and walk through Birkenhead Park dressed as Shrek characters, held a raffle, launched an online silent auction and is now preparing for an exciting Makers Market to showcase local young entrepreneurs.

🀝 Geoff Stevenson volunteers as a co-facilitator on the programme and mentors several of our young entrepreneurs. As a former business owner, Geoff brings a wealth of practical experience and knowledge, helping young people gain valuable insight into the realities of running a business.

Beyond the programme, Geoff is a fantastic ambassador for Spark, representing us at networking events across the Liverpool City Region and beyond, helping raise awareness of our work and creating new opportunities for the young people we support.

Together, Rianne and Geoff are helping young people build confidence, develop new skills and believe in what they can achieve.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we're incredibly grateful for the time, energy and expertise they give so generously.

Thank you, Rianne and Geoff, for making such a positive and lasting difference. πŸ’™

It's Wednesday and the highlight of our valuable volunteers continues! Today, we'd like to extend our warmest thanks to all of the volunteers who help out with employment in the Hub. In particular, we'd like to thank Mark for his consistency and commitment.

Mark volunteers his time every Tuesday to support our young members one-on-one with CV building, enhancing their attractiveness to employers, and Job searching to help our young people find exactly what roles appeal to them. His consistency and commitment during his work is commendable and his support has helped many of our young people feel more secure and confident about their future prospects.

Searching for a job can be difficult, and the challenges surrounding it can easily overwhelm our uncertain young members. Mark's support and advice is an anchor that helps reinforce the confidence of our young members and emboldens them to strive through the strife and keeping pushing until they get the positive outcome they're looking

We can't thank Mark enough for all that he does, and we can't thank all of our volunteers enough for the work they do to help our members! Your collective efforts are appreciated by us and all of our members.

A reminder for you all that Wirral Council will be in Spark in two weeks for a Meet The Employer session! A member of Wirral Council will be presenting information about Wirral Council, what it's like to work in the public sector and the opportunities on offer at Wirral Council.

It's a great, empowering session, giving all those interested the opportunity to ask any questions they have to an expert, something that wouldn't be possible in a formal interview setting. As well as this, you'll gain:
βœ… Real insight into the public sector
βœ… Confidence and clarity in taking advantage of available opportunities
βœ… Knowledge of roles and opportunities on offer by Wirral Council

If you're interested, use our website to book yourself on OR those with a registered interest in the public sector can reply to the message we sent out today!

Today, as part of volunteer week, we're highlighting the efforts of our important general volunteers, who help out with the day-to-day operations in Spark!

In particular, we'd like to highlight the valuable contribution that our Craig makes to Spark as our IT expert. Craig has helped design, enhance and tweak the various systems we make use of every day in our roles, such as the Spark Portal that makes contacting and recording our interactions with members so much easier!

Craig's willingness to help and efficiency in getting things done (as well as helping us with our silly tech mistakes!) makes him an invaluable member of the Spark team and we couldn't be more grateful he's with us.

A big thanks to him for his ingenuity, dedication and helpful attitude that makes Spark's operations noticeably smoother. We also extend our many thanks to all of our other volunteers for showing up when they're needed most!

Together, we can deliver for our young people the support and commitment they want to see from us.
