Good afternoon! Ralph here, again. Sunday volunteer at the bookshop.

This week I want to talk about your ‘Desert Island Books’.

‘The Shipping News’ by E. Annie Proulx would definitely be in the running for me. Such a funny and wholesome book. Beautifully written with stunning metaphor and simile.

What’s your ‘Desert Island Book’?

Don’t be shy!

We are open to 4pm today. Come and say hi!

Morning all! Ralph here, Sunday volunteer at the shop. Today we are celebrating late early 21st Century British fiction with these classics. I love them all, but I think my favourite is the brilliant and sadly missed Andrea Levy and award winning, ‘A Small Island’.

What’s yours?

Come and say hello, we are open until 4pm!

The Children’s Society has a show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this week.

It’s created to spotlight the urgent issue of teenage wellbeing in the UK. Designed with young people at its heart, the garden is a space for reflection, hope and connection, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which celebrates beauty in imperfection.

Created by Patrick Clarke, the garden delivers a clear message: young people deserve to feel safe, supported, seen and heard as they navigate today’s challenges.

We are open across the bank holiday; if you are feeling inspired, we are giving away FREE Mr Fothergill's seeds with every transaction or donation!

Morning all! Ralph here, Sunday volunteer at the bookshop. I’ve been away in London for a bit and I’m pleased to be back behind the till.

Today, I’m going to showcase one of my all time novelist’s ever, Nick Hornby.

I think a lot of men of a certain age think that his first novel, ‘High Fidelity’ was specifically written for them, such is it’s knowledge of how we behave, especially if we are obsessed with music.

‘About a Boy’ is equally observant on parenting.

I have a very personal Nick Hornby story which is funny. It’s about the time we met, but you’ll to come into the shop for me to tell you.

We are open to 4pm today. Come and say hi!

Morning! Ralph here, Sunday volunteer at the shop.

Today, I am highlighting something from our ‘classics’ shelf.

Albert Camus’a existential classic is timeless. If you have read it before, it’s always worth revisiting, and if you have not, it’ll make you think.

Nice looking edition too!

We are open until 4pm. Come and say hello.
