One turbine. More than just clean energy. 🌱

A community in Kilbirnie, Scotland, is showing what community-owned wind power can look like in practice.

Their single wind turbine is now generating clean electricity, with profits going back into the local community—supporting employment and training, transport, recreational facilities, and work to tackle fuel poverty.

It's a useful example of how renewable energy can be about more than generating electricity. Community ownership can also mean keeping more of the benefits of that generation within the community itself.

Different place, different project — but an interesting example of what communities elsewhere are already doing.

Plug-in solar has just become legal in Great Britain — TODAY !
As of 27 August, approved plug-in solar systems can be used in British homes. Government figures released today also show that nearly 172,000 solar installations have been fitted across the UK so far in 2026, with installations increasing in every nation and English region.

Here’s something worth thinking about.

The average consumption footprint of a Bigbury household is higher than the averages for both the South Hams and GB.

Perhaps the most interesting part is where those emissions come from. Housing matters, of course ( this is particularly high) — but so do the things we buy, how we travel and what we eat.

This isn’t about pointing fingers. These are averages, and every household is different. It’s about understanding our collective impact and asking a useful question:

Where could the changes we make locally have the biggest effect?
