Nought to Ocean Diver in 8 days! Bicester SAC do their first accelerated OD course for Walter and Harold so they can dive on holiday this month with their parents. Well done boys 👏👌

Five years ago if you asked me which was my favourite wreck, I would have said the James Egan Layne at Whitsands Bay, but having returned to its neighbour HMS Scylla last weekend with the Bicester Sub Aqua Club I am seriously considering it as my new favourite.

Apart from the proliferation of life on it, we were astounded to see vast mussel beds on the decks and companionways - something I have not witnessed on any UK wreck before. Colonies of Jewel anemones were present in all their glorious shades, and many fish species had made it their home.

The Scylla is definitely one to watch over the coming years!

For many this was their first open water dive, and conditions were ideal. Flat sea, warm weather and high tide. Depth was only 3-5m, but there were plenty of young fish in this colourful protected nursery. A great day to put into practice all those lessons, or just to do a kit check.

Having a number of Assistant Instructors available to support the Instructors is vital for a busy dive club. This week we had the following going on at our club night:
Sports Diver training
Ocean Diver theory exam
Dive Leader training
BLS lifeguard training

What a brilliant day at the club yesterday. 8 club members went to Stoney doing Diver Leader and Ocean Diver open water training, and 20 members attended the club last night doing Diver Leader theory and lifeguard training.

Having a good supply of lifeguards is essential for running pool sessions, so it was great to see 8 club members turn up for lifeguard training last night.
