Action Cerebral Palsy has responded to the Department for Education SEND Consultation. We are deeply grateful to the parents in our community who shared their time, personal stories, and lived experiences of the current SEND system. Their insights are vital in helping us understand how the proposed reforms might impact their children’s access to education.

Action Cerebral Palsy has submitted a response to the Government Consultation on the proposed SEND Reform: Putting Children and Young People First.

Newcastle University is running a survey of parents/carers of children with additional needs, including children with cerebral palsy, and should take 10-15 minutes to complete.

The aim of the study is to explore the views of parents and carers of children with additional needs regarding the wording of a questionnaire to understand the best way to phrase the questionnaire.

Participation is voluntary and participants are not being asked to answer the questions. They will not need to provide any identifying or personal information. They will only be asked about their level of comfort with the questions being asked.

Turning 18 shouldn’t mean losing support.
Too many young people with cerebral palsy fall off a healthcare “cliff edge” when paediatric services end — with no clear transition or adult specialist care.
GPs for CP is about building that bridge.

Image description:
Graphic titled “The ‘Cliff Edge’ at 18.” Text explains that many young people with cerebral palsy lose access to paediatric services at age 18 and often have no transition plan, adult specialist, or continued support. It states this gap leaves many adults with CP feeling abandoned by the healthcare system. The graphic says “GPs for CP is about building a bridge,” with a bridge illustration at the bottom and hashtags for the campaign.

Tell us about the barriers you face in your everyday life 🚫

The Unfair Index: Designing a fairer future, launches today.

We need disabled people and unpaid carers of disabled children, young people and adults in the UK to share their real experiences with us, so we can understand where better design is most needed: https://bit.ly/TheUnfairIndex

When we say ‘disabled people’, we include neurodivergent people (for example, autistic, ADHD, dyslexic), people with mental health conditions, chronic illness, learning disabilities, sensory and physical impairments.

We want to hear from all of you.

The world is full of barriers for disabled people, because society isn't designed with everyone in mind. Those barriers can take away things that everyone deserves - freedom, confidence, opportunity.

But it doesn't have to be that way. Not if we design and build differently.

Together with our Lived Experience Advisors, we have designed our largest piece of research ever. Now we need you.
