✨ Celebrating Volunteers’ Week across Bexley ✨
Now that Volunteers’ Week has come to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the brilliant ways organisations across Bexley celebrated, recognised and thanked their volunteers. Across the borough, charities and community groups found thoughtful and meaningful ways to shine a spotlight on the people who give their time to support others.
Blackfen Community Library marked both Volunteers’ Week and their 10-year anniversary by celebrating their amazing team of more than 90 volunteers, with individually signed thank you cards, keyrings, fridge magnets, a cream tea with music from the Rock Choir, and a VIP lunch with their local MP. A brilliant reminder that community spaces are powered by the dedication of local people.
Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice held their Hospice Volunteer Awards 2026 at The Boathouse in Danson Park, bringing volunteers together for an evening of celebration, awards, speeches and entertainment. Their event recognised the fantastic contribution volunteers make to hospice care and the difference they make to patients, families and the wider community.
Crossroads Care South East London celebrated their volunteers in several ways, including attending Volunteer Centre Greenwich’s Annual Recognition Awards, where two of their volunteer befrienders were recognised for contributing over 250 hours of service. They also celebrated being shortlisted and announced as winners of the Volunteer Team of the Year Award at the Bexley Volunteer Awards — a wonderful achievement and a reflection of the kindness, commitment and compassion of their volunteers.
Bexley Moorings Project also used Volunteers’ Week to share the voices of the families they support, highlighting the difference their volunteers and services make in helping families feel heard, supported and hopeful. They also shared volunteer highlights, including Daisy’s experience as a befriender, reminding us that volunteering is about connection, shared growth and hope for the future.
These celebrations show just how much volunteering matters across our borough. From libraries and hospices to befriending projects, family support and community care, volunteers are helping to reduce isolation, strengthen communities and remind people that they matter.
To every volunteer across Bexley: thank you. Your time, kindness and commitment make a real and lasting difference.
And to the organisations who continue to support, celebrate and champion volunteers — thank you for helping to keep volunteering visible, valued and at the heart of our communities.
