🚆 Off to university this September?
Starting university can feel a bit like setting off on a long train journey.
You’ve packed your bags.
You’ve worked hard to earn your place.
You’ve got your ticket.
But if you’re dyslexic, you might still be wondering:
🎫 Is my ticket really valid for this journey?
📚 Will everyone else cope better than me?
🤔 Have I remembered everything I need?
🧭 What happens if I get lost along the way?
If any of those thoughts sound familiar, you’re not alone.
Every year, thousands of dyslexic students start university and discover that support is available to help them succeed.
Many students can access Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), which may provide:
✅ Specialist study skills support
✅ Assistive technology
✅ Extra time in exams and assessments
✅ Support with organisation, planning and academic writing
But sometimes the most valuable support isn’t software or funding.
Sometimes it’s talking to someone who has already made the journey.
At Dyslexia South East CIC, our Dyslexia Café is a welcoming space where young people, students, parents and adults can share experiences, ask questions and learn from others who understand.
Whether you’re excited, nervous or somewhere in between, you don’t have to make the journey alone.
☕ Join the conversation at one of our Dyslexia Café events and connect with a supportive community before university begins.
💬 If you studied at university with dyslexia, what advice would you give someone about to start their first term?
