An outreach update for Hastings from Simon Basey, team leader.
Hastings outreach - June 20th Monday
Late call up to stand in as team lead and first report so excuse the newbie attempt!
It was a busy evening in Hastings tonight - at 7.50pm it looked like no-one was going to turn up and suddenly at the last moment everyone appeared! In total 55 meals distributed over the evening with at least 45 people coming down to see us. Almost all hot food and sandwiches were gone before we went round town, and drinks were gone particularly early. Thankfully lots of water on board so we could keep people hydrated!
Most people around Pelham Place tonight and fewer around town so we saw most people early doors. Everyone seemed in pretty good spirits. Still lots of requests for tents, ground sheets and equipment with more people sleeping rough.
Hot food tonight was chips with a meat/veg curry sauce which went down very well (we had people asking for extras but sadly couldn't oblige due to numbers!). Thanks to Donna for the great cooking!
The team was a scratch one assembled at last moment but did a fantastic job. Thanks to Lorraine, Chris and Steve for being on the ball as always, to Sue for stepping in last minute for her first outreach slot. Big shout out to Will for drinks, driving the van to and from Hastings (particularly happy I could swerve that one!), as well as helping us out with the food service.
